Project Accountant
We are seeking a highly engaged, hands-on, and proactive Project Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for cost-controlling projects to ensure efficient handling of financial and administrative project tasks. The ideal candidate can work independently in a growing office and report directly to the Finance Controller.
Please note that this position may require the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance. This role will be based out of our Ottawa office.
What You Will Be Working On
Cost control for multiple construction projects upward ranging from $1M- $400M. The scope includes processing AP subtrade progress claims, account reconciliation, ensuring subcontracts are executed and compliance documents have been received, and overseeing supplier costs and preparing project accruals. Prepare journal entries with supporting documentation. Ensure the accurate processing and distribution of cheques received from our Shared Service department. Review and submit Timesheets to the Payroll Department. Compile labour, equipment, material, subtrade (LEMS) and submit monthly progress billings to the client. Implement cost control measures, perform reconciliations regularly, and provide reporting when required. Support project closeout process. Timely and effective communication with internal/external stakeholders and team members. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Support other administrative tasks as needed; facilitate collaboration among team members to achieve common goals.
What We Are Looking For
Proven experience in construction project accounting. Highly organized, prioritizes, and can multi-task to meet deadlines. A history of working on multiple projects at a time, used to working independently. Demonstrate logical problem-solving skills to independently find solutions to logical problems. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Experience with Vista Viewpoint or OnBase or Ineight is considered an asset. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
