Title: Virtual Reality Career Exploration Facilitator

Location: Employment Services, 2525 Carling Ave, 2nd floor

Supervisor: Wendy Trudel

Hours: Flexible but should be offered on a consistent schedule Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 9 am - 4 pm and Thursdays between 10am - 4 pm

Pinecrest-Queensway Employment Services offers a full-suite of free employment programs to help job seekers find meaningful employment. Programs include: In Motion & Momentum+, Employer Services, Internationally Trained Professionals (ITP), and Community Connections for Newcomers Employment.

Volunteer Description

To help job seekers use Virtual Reality (VR) career simulations to experience real workplaces, reflect on fit, and identify learning or career directions to ensure a consistent, high-quality client experience.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • provide technical support, ensuring a safe, comfortable and positive experience
  • Guide, observe and support VR users during one-on-one sessions
  • confirm the client's name and simulation assigned
  • check headset is clean, charged, and ready
  • review safety setup - clear floor space, adjust straps, ensure client is seated if necessary
  • explain in simple terms how to use the headset:
  • how to look around
  • how to end or pause the session
  • how to signal if they feel dizzy or want to stop
  • observe the client during sessions for physical or emotional discomfort
  • manage time for the session to start and end on time
  • Provide the client with a reflection worksheet for completion before their next appointment with an Employment Specialist
  • perform administrative duties as needed if clients do not attend appointments

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (French and English) preferred
  • Other languages an asset
  • Familiar with VR and VR equipment

All volunteers must go through screening, onboarding, and training through Human Resources (HR). A Police Record Check (level 1) is required for volunteering with First Words. HR will provide a letter to support your request for a check.

Our Beginning:

Founded by community members in 1979, we are one of about 60 non-profit community health centers across Ontario. We are run by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of 12 community members elected at our annual meeting.

Growing With Our Community:

In 1979 we opened our doors with 4 staff. Today, we have over 347 full and part time employees serving our local community and over 400 volunteers.
