Overview
The Community Assistant Manager works as part of a team with the Community Manager to support all management functions of the residence, with particular emphasis on services to residents and their families, managing staff, and operating suites. The Community Assistant Manager is also responsible to act in the role of the Community Resident Manager on a short-term basis in order to accommodate management continuity in the absence of the Community Manager.
Qualifications
- Advanced education preferably in hospitality management or equivalent
- Two+ years supervisory and/or leadership experience in a similar environment preferred
- Computer literacy required, with intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, Excel and Internet usage preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of WHMIS and Health and Safety Programs
- Knowledge of seniors, gerontology, and income and housing issues preferred
- Knowledge of food service, housekeeping and facility operations preferred
- Must be willing and able to travel to work at different Silvera resident communities, which are located throughout the city of Calgary
- May be required to provide additional coverage in times of staffing shortages and/or special events. Normally, overtime hours are calculated as time off in lieu, to a maximum of 3 days annually
- Able to comprehend and articulate information provided by others (including with those with complex needs, language barriers and/or disabilities) in a way that builds common understanding
- Decision-making and judgment skills
- Conflict resolution skills
- Oral and written communication skills
- Time management skills
- Able to prioritize tasks
- This position requires the flexibility to modify duties, routines and work schedules at times in order to accommodate changing and emerging demands of the resident community environment

Work Conditions
Hours of Work:
Tuesday to Saturday rotation 8:00am - 4:30pm; 40 hours per week.
Evenings after-hours and weekend work may be required.

For more than 50 years, Silvera for Seniors has provided safe, affordable housing for 1,500 lower-income Calgary seniors from all walks of life.
