The City of Port Alberni is currently looking for a DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF FINANCE to join a progressive and dynamic organization that provides a full range of programs and services to taxpayers. This 12-month term position will report to the Director of Finance. This position is responsible for supervising revenue services, financial reporting and accounting, also planning and administering the asset management systems of the City duties.
Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include:

Directing and coordinating the work of finance department staff engaged in payroll, general accounting, property taxation, utilities, accounts payable, accounts receivable and reception duties.

Preparing year-end financial statements and leads the finance team in preparing supporting documentation and to required standards.

Performing a wide range of accounting functions to support City operations.

Providing support and expertise during budgeting processes.

Assisting in the development and implementation of accounting, financial and budgeting systems and policies.

Providing effective leadership to the City’s financial team.
Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.

Completion of a recognized Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience in local government and administration, including demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience

Experience working with and supporting financial software systems and internal controls, preparing complex financial statements and finance modelling, as well as performing municipal accounting and auditing would be assets.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

Demonstrated experience in budget preparation and administration.
-
Demonstrated experience administering and working with payroll systems.
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work in a collaborative manner.

Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
This is an exempt position for a 12-month term. The salary range is $108,210 – $124,177 and the position includes a comprehensive benefit package and a flex day work schedule. Qualified candidates may apply by forwarding a resume and cover letter by 4:30pm on January 26, 2026:
