Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The housekeeper is responsible for the general cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the building and its grounds.

Accountabilities:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

  • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for relevant equipment (vacuum cleaner, washers, dryers, etc.).
  • Communicates maintenance needs to the Executive Director or designate.
  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as: cleaning residents’ rooms; cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, mirrors; dusting; collecting and disposing of garbage; vacuuming; changing light bulbs and other minor interior needs.
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges, and dusts furniture as required.
  • Ensures the general cleanliness of the external property.
  • Salts exterior of the property when appropriate.
  • Checks doors and windows to ensure building, employee, and resident security.
  • Restocks applicable supplies and distributes said supplies as required
  • Changes and washes linens, washes residents’ clothing following hazardous materials procedures
  • Ensures all housekeeping documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Fosters positive relationships with families and fellow employees and fosters a caring environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Elizabeth Roach
  • Direct reports for this position: Executive Director

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically throughout the interior and exterior of a hospice environment.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of injury due to:

  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Exposure to chemicals
  • Moving objects
  • Sharp objects
  • Electrical hazards
  • Repetitive strain injury

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions
  • Use gloves
  • Use eye/ear protection
  • Eye wash stations
  • Use fume masks where appropriate
  • Be aware of resident/family issues

education and experience Qualifications:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High school diploma
  • WHMIS
  • Food Safe is an asset
  • Clear criminal record check
  • Clear TB check

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • At least three months of prior related experience, and familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.

Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):

  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Must be fluent in reading and writing in English.
  • Strong verbal communication
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Good health; able to perform physical activities, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping
  • A disposition for working with seniors

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $19.56 to $20.06 with a maximum of $20.56.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
