Abrasive Blasting Technician
About the role
Tacten is currently hiring for Abrasive Blasting Technicians! Our technicians are responsible for preparing and cleaning metal surfaces through abrasive blasting techniques to ensure proper adhesion for protective coatings, paint, or other finishes. This role requires strict adherence to safety standards, technical skill in operating blasting equipment, and attention to detail in surface preparation to meet industry and client specifications.
Our technicians will work in industrial environments such as fabrication shops, refineries, power plants, and field service sites. Duties include setting up blasting equipment, selecting appropriate abrasives, monitoring blasting pressures, and ensuring quality control of finished surfaces. The role may also involve supporting coating applications, performing routine equipment maintenance, and assisting with environmental compliance practices such as dust collection and waste disposal.
- Project and call out based work
- Individuals must be local to Fort McMurray, AB
- Operate abrasive blasting equipment safely and efficiently to clean, smooth, or prepare metal and concrete surfaces.
- Select abrasives and adjust blasting pressures based on job requirements and specifications.
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure correct preparation and coating adhesion.
- Follow detailed work instructions, drawings, and client specifications.
- Maintain blasting equipment, hoses, and safety gear in proper working order.
- Working in composite crews alongside other inspectors, trades professionals and/or non-desctructive testing professionals
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience labouring in an industrial environment
- CSTS/OSSA or OSSA BSO or OSSA CSO
- CSE/M (Confined Space and Monitor and Entry)
- Physical stamina to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, or extended shifts.
- NACE Certertification is considered an asset
- Experience in abrasive blasting, industrial coatings, or related field considered an asset
- IRATA Rope Access Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain
