What You’ll Be Doing
As a Director in Trading Floor Market Risk Management within Capital Markets Risk Management, you will oversee market risk and provide risk oversight with a focus on the Global FX trading desks. Your primary responsibilities include understanding desk trading and hedging strategies, providing effective risk challenge to the trading desk, and conducting daily and periodic monitoring of positions, risk, P&L, and capital. You will proactively monitor markets to anticipate potential risk impacts and collaborate with the Stress team to develop and enhance stress scenario analysis, strengthening the risk framework for the Global FX business.
You will support the Head of Trading Market Risk for Global FX and work closely with other risk managers globally to deliver timely and accurate risk and product analysis to senior management. You will lead risk measurement enhancement projects, including internal risk measurement and FRTB Capital risk measures for your business line. Collaboration with partners in Capital Markets Risk, Trading, Technology, and Finance will be essential to ensure robust risk management, efficient communication, and process improvements. Additionally, you will work with the Quantitative Risk team to identify and address issues with risk models and continuously enhance existing models. Your strong quantitative, database, and coding skills will help streamline and automate risk oversight processes and reports, as well as support ad-hoc risk analysis.
At CIBC, we foster a work environment that enables you to thrive. You’ll benefit from a hybrid work arrangement, spending 2-3 days per week on-site, with the remainder working remotely.
How You’ll Succeed
- Problem solving and Communication: Ensure effective and timely communication of desk P&L and risk changes. Closely monitor trading activities and limit utilization to help manage CIBC’s exposure to key risk factors.
- Provide Effective Challenges to Trading Desks: Provide effective challenges to the respective trading desks’ business strategies and risk management practices. Proactively identify key market risk factors/indicators and monitor risk metrics for the trading desks.
- Relationship Building: Develop strong relationships with Capital Markets groups—including Traders, Sales, Marketers, Quantitative Analysts, Finance, Market Risk Solutions, and the Limit Monitoring Group—maintaining clear communication as a second line of defense.
- Continuous Development of Domain Knowledge: Maintain and expand your expertise in Capital Markets activities, products, valuation and risk models, and risk sensitivities, with a focus on Global FX. Stay current with regulatory requirements and uphold rigorous standards for risk analysis, strategic thinking, and process documentation.
Who You Are
- You can demonstrate experience. 5+ years of experience in market risk, trading, or a related risk field. Strong knowledge of capital markets products, especially Global FX (e.g., STIRT, FX options, or other derivatives), is a significant asset.
- You have a degree/diploma. Master degree in Quantitative Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, and/or related field.
- You're digitally savvy. You embrace innovative solutions, including AI, and evolving technologies. You are proficient in programming and database tools (such as Python, SQL, Bloomberg API, etc.), and have a vision to streamline and automate oversight processes as well as ad-hoc risk analysis.
- You're passionate about people. You value relationships and build trust through respect, authenticity, and accountability—both within your team and across CIBC.
- You give meaning to data. You enjoy solving complex problems and communicating detailed information in a clear, impactful way.
- You understand that success is in the details. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making.
- You act like an owner. You thrive when empowered to take initiative, exceed expectations, and deliver results within your team and across the broader CMRM group.
