About the role

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Fleet Supervisorand Equipment , and within established policies, procedures and guidelines to repair and maintain all motor vehicles, trucks, tractors and mower maintenance equipment as owned or operated by the Niagara Parks Commission.

Niagara Parks offers an hourly rate of $40.73 per hour, as well as a comprehensive benefit and defined benefit pension plan.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Qualification(s)C of Q as a Automotive Service Technician and Truck and Coach Technician
  • Three (3) years of related experience and one year on the job.
  • Strong knowledge of testing equipment
  • Class "DZ" Drivers License (Class "AZ" Drivers License would be an asset)
  • Other Licensing may be required to perform duties and working knowledge of any applicable legislation/regulations including the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR and Defibrillator certification. propane, ODP, tow motor, loader, elevated work platform licenses.
  • Regular and on going training as necessary to maintain compliance with current and emerging trade related technologies and legislation
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Possess organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Repairs and maintains all motor vehicles, trucks, tractors and mower and maintenance equipment.
  • Order parts and supplies as needed.
  • Provides safety checks to vehicles as required, per MTO regulations.
  • Check vehicle for warranty repairs and call appropriate dealer.
  • Provides necessary service to building stand-by generators and all portable generators.
  • Schedule service and load bank testing with suppliers and assist with testing.
  • Drives trucks to pick-up supplies and deliver to various work sites.
  • Diagnose electrical, electronic and multiplex circuits for engine, emission, ABS, Allison transmission, International and Cummins engines using laptop and scanners.
  • Understand function and diagnosis of electronic sensors.
  • Overhauls engines, transmissions and all electrical and electronic components, rear-end units, air-brakes and air-conditioning systems, steering mechanisms, hydraulics and pneumatic systems (sweepers) and truck mounted refrigerated units.
  • Services all gasoline, diesel and propane vehicles and dual fuel vehicles at OEM recommended intervals or sooner as required.
  • Maintains all vehicle repair reports and records.
  • While responding to vehicle and equipment maintenance issues after hours and under inclement weather conditions provide on-site assessment to prioritize work identifying appropriate maintenance or repair activity in accordance with policy, procedure and necessity of service(urgent) to minimize financial and visitor impacts.
  • Reports broken, lost or defective tools or equipment to supervisor and may need to fabricate tools to perform a special function.
  • Complies with all applicable legislation as well as any related policies and procedures and any updates as they may occur.
  • Shall work co-operatively with and act as mentors to other NPC employees specifically apprentices and students.
  • Minor body work; repairs, rusted floors, doors and hinges etc.
  • Utilizing online resources for diagnostics e.g. Mitchell on Demand
