Under the supervision of the Team Lead Workforce, as a First Aid Instructor, you will be responsible for instructing and evaluating Basic and Intermediate First Aid candidates to Lifesaving Society standards. You will be required to adhere to the Corporate Code of Conduct. Primary duties include:

  • Demonstrate and instruct candidates to the must see standards set out by The Lifesaving Society for the Basic and Intermediate First Aid certification.
  • Provide feedback throughout the course and communicate the result of evaluation to candidates at the end of the course.
  • Complete lesson plans, evaluations and related administrative work.
  • Create a safe learning environment for participants.
  • Attend training, meetings, and orientations as required.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Completed High School Diploma or GED plus at least 3 months of experience in First Aid and/or lifesaving scenarios.
  • Current intermediate First Aid from an approved Alberta Occupational Health and Safety provider is required.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from an approved Alberta Occupational Health and Safety provider current within 12 months is required.
  • First Aid Instructor (Lifesaving Society) current within 24 months is required.
  • Possess a clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search is required. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
  • National Lifeguard Instructor and Lifesaving Society Swim and/ or Instructor qualifications will be considered an asset.
  • 6 months of experience in a teaching environment will be considered an asset.
  • You are a strong communicator with demonstrated judgement, adaptability and team leadership skills.

**Working Conditions:**Working at a variety of sport centre locations with increased sounds, interruptions and changing indoor temperatures.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A valid security clearance with a Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided. Date of completion must be with the last 12 months.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Applicants may be contacted, interviewed, and hired throughout the duration of this competition.

**Pre-employment Drug Test:**An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: $36.85 - 40.81 per hour

Days of Work: This position works various shifts including daytime, evening, and weekends. Currently recruiting for daytime weekdays Monday to Friday.

Hours of work: This position works up to 18 hours per week.
