This position will not be filled until consideration has been made by the CBC/Radio-Canada / APS Workforce Adjustment Committee.

This is a 100% on-site position, with the possibility of travel to remote locations. A full Class 5 driver’s licence is required.

Your Role

The Senior Systems Analyst manages and supports server-based systems and processes within CBC/Radio-Canada’s media production ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, maintain, and support physical and virtual server-based systems and processes.
  • Provide leadership, planning, and coordination of projects to effectively manage system upgrades and maintenance, following formal methodologies and change management processes.
  • Provide escalation-level support to frontline teams and coordinate the work of technical staff.
  • Support, train, and mentor junior staff and colleagues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve moderate to highly complex issues within tightly integrated systems supporting critical applications.
  • Participate in an off-hours on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures, monitor system health, gather statistics, and troubleshoot errors and alarms.
  • Analyze technical issues and provide feedback to senior management and production partners.
  • Develop operational procedures and standards for new systems.
  • Define, coordinate, and execute testing procedures to validate and improve system functionality.
  • Document issues and solutions to support knowledge sharing and future troubleshooting.
  • Implement best practices for scalability, supportability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Configure systems to meet uninterrupted 24/7 operational requirements.
  • Analyze requirements, evaluate hardware/software, and recommend upgrades and acquisitions.
  • Liaise with vendors to ensure successful integration and implementation.
  • Plan and implement system configurations including security, networking, access control, and capacity requirements.
  • Maintain and update automated control room systems (e.g., Ross Overdrive, VizRT, MOSS/iNews protocol).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of hardware/software configurations, security, performance, and utilization.
  • Familiarity with distributed computing environments and high-availability clusters.
  • Ability to write scripts using supported platform tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of scripting/programming languages: Bash, Perl, PHP, SQL, PowerShell, with working knowledge of HTML and XML.
  • Solid understanding of video/audio systems, codecs, and cloud publishing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of backup/recovery procedures and system efficiency methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of networking technologies, protocols, and security.
  • Familiarity with project and change management methodologies (asset).
  • Strong communication and time management skills.

Specialized Experience

  • Configure and maintain LAWO VSM (Virtual Studio Manager) for ST 2110 IP media environments.
  • Develop VSM logic (gadgets, gates, storage groups) for automated workflows.
  • Integrate LAWO hardware (Power Core, On-Air Designer, theWall).
  • Integrate third-party systems (Sony, Grass Valley, Evertz).
  • Configure and program RTS Adam Intercom systems.
  • Manage Avid Interplay, Airspeeds, and Nexis storage.

Education and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Broadcast Production, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in broadcast or IT environments.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA, CCNA, CISSP, PMP are assets.
  • Experience with storage systems and file-based workflows is an asset.
  • Broadcast (TV/Radio) knowledge is an asset.
  • Cloud architecture experience is an asset.
