About the role

Overview:

The Fuel & Financial Analyst participates as a member of the Financial Reporting Group in determining objectives and priorities. The incumbent will act as a liaison between Financial Reporting and NTPCs operational groups with fuel related issues as well as the liaison between NTPC and fuel suppliers.

The Fuel & Financial Analyst maintains the fuel records of the corporation including the impact on expense, inventory, and the fuel stabilization funds. This position is responsible for analyzing production fuel and the related generation and revenue for each community NTPC serves. The Fuel & Financial Analyst is responsible for accurately entering monthly entries such as deferral account, re-occurring and accrual entries.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide complete and accurate financial records and reports in accordance with established Cooperative Accounting Policies and Procedures, in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards & Regulatory Standard, that will contribute to efficient management of the Cooperative.
  • Prepares and analyses monthly Fuel Consumption and Generation reports. Works with plant operators and the operations team to investigate any significant variances in generation and fuel consumption.
  • Prepares and analyses the monthly Production Fuel Analysis, integrating power sales, unit sales, generation & production fuel for all NTPCs communities.
  • Updates and analyzes the Rate Stabilization Funds monthly. Provides information monthly to the Controller on the transactions in these accounts as part of the monthly management reporting package.
  • Completes intercompany reconciliations monthly to ensure accuracy and completeness of transactions. Completes quarterly billing for intercompany accounts.
  • Assists in the planning and completion of the Corporation’s year end external audit by preparing year- end working papers for the Auditors and responding to Auditor questions and follow up information as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance with a minimum of one (1) year accounting experience; [or] a Diploma in Business, Accounting, or Finance with minimum of three (3) years accounting experience; equivalent combination of relevant education and accounting experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems is required.
  • Experience with computer generated report programs would be preferred.
  • Experience in Great Plains environment would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) accounting would be an asset.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of excel spreadsheets.
  • Requires experience with working paper preparation.
  • Experience in co-ordinating work in a team environment.
  • Requires a high level of organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Requires attention to detail and accuracy with numbers.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check required.

Salary for this position ranges from $54.10/hr - $65.72/hr, plus a location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan. This position is located in Hay River, NT. Relocation assistance may be provided.
