The purpose of this position is to act as a technical leader in relation to the Government Network Environment. This environment is the basis of all digital communication between employees and Information Technology systems and represents the backbone of the infrastructure maintained by IT Shared Services.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Develop, maintain, debug, test, and document infrastructure components and configurations;
- Install, upgrade, maintain the operation of GPEI computing networks, utilizing multiple technologies (Wired LAN, Wireless LAN, Point-to-Point Wireless links, Fiber-optic and transition equipment, etc);
- Troubleshoot IT network infrastructure components;
- Work closely with junior network technicians and management to ensure environment consistency and reliability;
- Maintain acceptable levels of network service quality through monitoring and proactive maintenance/upgrades;
- Work closely with junior technicians, peers, and management to ensure security, confidentiality, and availability of Government IT infrastructure;
- Research industry trends and standards, provide recommendations;
- Advise on hardware, software, and communications components and performance improvements;
- Assist in the evaluation of network equipment, software, supplies and services;
- Work as a technical lead for designated aspects of the Government network environment;
- Engage with counterparts to ensure that the specialized environments are configured in accordance with operational standards;
- Other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must have a university degree or college diploma with major course work in Network Infrastructure;
- Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered;
- Extensive experience of related enterprise-level in the IT industry and extensive experience in supporting complex network environments;
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) designation or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) designation with significant work experience in advanced networking;
- Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered;
- Experience configuring and maintaining Cisco-based networking environments;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, in a technical and non-technical manner;
- Effective interpersonal skills, judgement, dependability, and reliability;
- Must have use of a reliable vehicle on a daily basis with appropriate insurance coverage;
- Applicants must have a good previous work and attendance record;
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment.
Other Qualifications:
- Training or certification for the following technology areas/vendors will be considered an asset:
- Network cabling standards.
- Fibre optic cabling and associated technologies.
- Firewall technology (Checkpoint).
- Virtual Private Network technology (Checkpoint).
- Intrustion detection/prevention.
- Voice Over IP technologies.
- Video Conferencing technologies (Cisco, Skype).
- Wireless LAN and Point-to-Point Technologies (Cisco, Ubiquiti, Cambium).
- SolarWinds monitoring and performance technologies (Orion, NPM, Netflow, etc).
- Experience configuring and maintaining security appliances (Firewall, VPN) for enterprise networks.
