Job Synopsis
The Peace and Advocacy Coordinator position primarily serves the needs of MCC Manitoba to inform and engage the constituency in reflection and action as it pertains to peacebuilding and advocacy. The Peacebuilding and Advocacy Coordinator will also work closely with the MCC Canadian Advocacy Network as it develops and promotes national and international advocacy campaigns emerging from MCC’s work around the world.

- Minimum education level: BA or equivalent – academic focus on peace and conflict studies, theology, political science or international development, an asset
- Minimum experience: 2-5 years work experience within a church, secondary or post-secondary school or non-profit organization and/or MCC experience, a strong asset
- Knowledge of/commitment to MCC’s philosophy of service and development.
- Working knowledge of relief, development, peace and justice issues related to MCC’s programs locally and internationally
- Committed to the faith and peacemaking statements of MCC's philosophy and ability to creatively communicate these values to constituency members and the community at large
- Recognition of and respect for the different theological perspectives within the MCC constituency
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Creative and flexible thinker with ability to facilitate group processes
- Effective inter-personal skills to enable representing MCC in churches and the community.
Key Responsibilities
Constituency engagement with peace theology and practice – 35%
- Engage with churches, schools and the constituency at large on peacebuilding – teaching, preaching, leading workshops and supporting local peacebuilding initiatives
- Collaborate with CDR department on constituency engagement opportunities as they arise.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Germinating Conversations working group to organize and promote public events related to food, faith, farming, and land
Dismantling oppression education – 15%
- Chair the MCC Manitoba Dismantling Oppression Committee which seeks to uncover and break down barriers of discrimination and oppression within MCC Manitoba and broader MCC culture and structure to ensure that all MCC Manitoba staff are active participants in all aspects of MCC.
- Coordinate and lead trainings for MCC staff on racial equity, decolonization, accessibility, and anti-oppression.
Advocacy and climate education – 45%

Participate in the MCC Canadian Advocacy Network and animate its current advocacy campaign within Manitoba (Climate Action for Peace).

Co-chair the Mennonite Church Manitoba Climate Action Working Group as it seeks to ignite the imagination of congregations for climate action.

Maintain MCC Manitoba’s lobby reporting requirements on behalf of the Executive Director.

Participate in the Mennonite Church Manitoba Palestine/Israel Network (MCMPIN)

Raise the profile of MCC advocacy work within MCC Manitoba and its constituency.

Monitor provincial government policies on matters pertaining to MCCM programs and coordinate MCCM’s relationship to the provincial government.
General – 5%
- Participate as a member of the Program Team in the development of overall strategies, annual plans and budgets.
- Prepare reports and recommendations on issues related to areas of responsibility.
- Ensure that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example.
- Model nonviolent peacemaking through daily interactions with staff and the public.
- Participate in a local church and gatherings, be willing to use his or her gifts within the local faith community.
- Carry out additional projects as assigned by the Program Director.
