About the role

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager, Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the Unit Clerk provides support and care to the unit, to patients, and to the health care team through the provision of performing clerical, receptionist, and related duties as directed, as well as assisting with patient/resident care and providing basic supportive care as directed.

Experience

  • Recent patient care experience (in the last 4 years) required or equivalent will be considered.
  • Computer experience required (i.e. Microsoft Office).

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Health Unit Clerk certificate from a recognized college/educational institution required.
  • Health Care Aide certificate from a recognized college/educational institution required.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is required for positions in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Urgent Care with recertification required annually. (Certification must be obtained within 2 months of acquiring the position).

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the hospital, patients/residents and their families.
  • Ability to operate information technology equipment as required, e.g. fax, photocopier, computer, etc.
