The Rotman Research Institute (RRI) is a premier international centre for the study of human brain function. The RRI is committed to advancing knowledge of healthy aging and age-related brain disorders, such as dementia, stroke, and sensory loss, by building on its foundational strengths in cognitive neuroscience and its leadership in the innovative use of informatics, electrophysiology, and neuroimaging technologies.

We are currently looking for an empathetic, hardworking and organized individual to fill our position of Research Assistant. The Research Assistant’s role is to work with research participants who are diagnosed with various neurological diseases (Alzheimer’s, MCI, FTD). The Research Assistant will administer tDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) as well as various neuro-psych tests and tasks with the participants.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with participants and adhering to the various study protocols
  • Administering various neuro-psych tests as indicated in the protocol
  • Data cleaning, collecting and recording
  • Assisting in drafting and editing manuscripts
  • Assisting with updating databases, backing-up testing data, and debrief summaries as needed
  • Following up and managing participant questionnaires

Clinical

  • Monitor MRI, Blood Draw, and Biospecimen Sample collection appointments.
  • Setting up tDCS equipment and administering stimulation
  • Conducting cognitive training activities involving word-finding, executive functioning, and other

Administrative

  • Maintain a detailed document of lab supplies with an inventory.
  • Ordering supplies as needed
  • Organize data and all study materials at the lab, including filing and scanning paper scoresheets and printing materials as needed.
  • Collect deliveries and keep record of packing slips.
  • Assisting with maintaining timely financial records and occasional expense reports
  • Assisting with bill payments and travel reimbursement requests
  • Assisting with Maintaining a database with participant progress information
  • Use of Microsoft Suite, Octopus, E-espresso, Outlook, and Google Calendar
  • Assisting the Lab manager as needed.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • A 4-year Honours Bachelor degree and 5 years’ experience as a Research Assistant at Level 1, or a general 3-year B.Sc. with experience in a specialized area and 5 years’ experience as a Research Assistant - Level 1, or a Master’s degree, or a general degree in a related field from a University accredited by the University of Toronto with a minimum two years’ experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent writing skills in both English and French
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses is an asset but not required
  • Prior experience with Alzheimer’s or Dementia is an asset but is not required
