Scope
Are you passionate about textile and fibre arts and enjoy teaching a variety of ages? Join the City of Surrey's Culture Division and contribute to high quality arts education in the community.
Community Arts is hiring Textile Art Program Instructors to develop and instruct classes for 2026. Our Textile Art Instructors have the opportunity to teach preschool, children, youth and adult participants throughout the year and to participate in hands-on outreach activities across Surrey.
Responsibilities
- Instruct lessons for a variety of ages and abilities, including preschool, children, youth, adults, and seniors.
- Deliver course content that fosters technical skill building and individual expression.
- Facilitate developmentally appropriate textile art classes that are engaging and accessible.
- Submit detailed lesson plans and supply lists for each class, camp, or workshop.
- Independently set up, take down, and maintain program space.
- Provide a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Required skills include:
- Provide instruction on a variety of mediums (sewing, dyeing, weaving, printmaking, knitting, embroidery, felting, and book-binding).
- Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relational skills with participants and staff.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Qualifications
We're looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in art and art education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with strong classroom management skills.
The successful candidate must have:
- A degree/diploma in the area of visual arts, art education, or a related field or related experience.
- A minimum of one year previous teaching experience, as well as a thorough understanding of visual arts pedagogy.
- A current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
- A Valid BC Driver's License is an asset.

Number of Job Openings: 3-5
Hourly Rate: $32.16
Conditions of Employment
This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
