Are you passionate about renewable energy?
BC Hydro is embarking on an aggressive program, working with First Nation Power Producers in remote communities, to
reduce diesel used for generating electricity in BC Hydro’s Non-Integrated Areas.
BC Hydro’s Non-Integrated Areas diesel reduction team is looking for a motivated individual to support progressing several
microgrid scale solar and battery energy storage systems in remote communities across the province. We’re looking for a
Co-op student to help develop new procedures for solar energy performance monitoring including deploying weather
monitoring equipment, completing solar energy modelling, and other tasks related to renewable energy systems.
This role is in Burnaby at the BC Hydro Edmonds office.
As a Co-op student, you will learn and experience:

Practical, hands-on work experience directly related to your specific field of study.
-
Learning and training opportunities, including opportunities to network with your division.
-
Learn all about other divisions and initiatives at BC Hydro.
-
Take advantage of the opportunity to explore future career options. Depending on what team the successful candidate is
hired into, duties can also include some of the following:

Provide assistance and support to engineering teams
-
Work mainly hybrid, up to 3 days per week in the office, and may participate in some field work requiring travel of 2-7 days
in remote areas.
- Participate in high value, multi-disciplinary project work and gain valuable insight into the organization and implementation
of large capital projects. Gain exposure to the exciting and increasingly growing hydro electric industry.
What you bring
- To qualify as a candidate, individual's must be enrolled and yet to graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in
Canada.
- Completed a minimum of 2nd year of Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering Degree studies at an
accredited university.
- Familiarity with solar energy systems, solar energy modelling, irradiance measuring equipment, and/or PVsyst software
would be considered an asset.

Strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
-
Strong communication skills, highly motivated and results oriented.
What we offer
- As a condition of employment at BC Hydro, a background check clearance will be required. This may include: reference
checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and
alcohol test.
- All positions will be hired first as a four month work term. For some positions, there is opportunity to extend, to eight
months.
- Students are expected to work at the job location for their co-op role and it is the student’s responsibility to relocate
themselves if necessary.

Some roles may require a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
Please be advised that some roles may be assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will
be required as a pre-condition to employment.

Flexible work model role definitions:
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work
they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements.
Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person
time.
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
