Position Overview:

Join Finning and gain hands-on experience in electrical engineering and power systems. This position offers:

  • Opportunities to apply academic knowledge to real-world projects.

  • Exposure to Caterpillar engines, generator sets, and third-party equipment.

  • A collaborative environment with mentorship from Professional Engineers.

As a Co-op Student, you’ll assist with electrical engineering initiatives, provide technical support, and develop technical drawings and bills of materials for Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar equipment.

For this position, the expected hourly rate is between $26 and $28 per hour.

Job Description:

  • Learn and understand CAT engines and generator set offerings (diesel and natural gas).
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of material.
  • Create PLC and HMI programs for assigned projects.
  • Liaise with internal and external suppliers/clients to develop solutions.
  • Provide drafting support and perform technical tasks under supervision.
  • Determine system operating parameters for Caterpillar and third-party equipment.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Work on CAD drawings and technical documentation.
  • Support engineering staff with drafting and design tasks.
  • Assist in PLC/HMI programming and testing.
  • Participate in project meetings and collaborate with suppliers.
  • Update bills of material and maintain project records.

Requirements:

  • Completed 3rd year of Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering at a Canadian university.
  • Proficient in CAD software and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming.
  • Understanding of power generation and generator control systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Important:

  • This position is based out of our Surrey office.
  • Temporary Co-Op term 8 months.
  • Monday – Friday, 5x2 schedule.
