Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Quality Initiatives Coordinator, and while demonstrating a commitment to the mission, values and goals of Misericordia Health Centre and the PHCC, the Clerk 3 is responsible for: receiving incoming calls, creating, updating and documenting accurate information into patients record, faxing, locating resources and other tasks as required.

Experience

One (1) year’s previous experience in a Patient Registration Department preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Grade 12 education. Successful completion of: a Medical Office Assistant Program from a recognized College, Unit Clerk Certificate program, or the first year of a recognized Health Information Management Professional program OR successful completion of a recognized medical terminology course, PLUS one-year related office experience preferred. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Qualifications And Skills

Computer software knowledge is an asset. Keyboarding speed of 45 wpm. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication in the English language required. Works within MHC’s core values, philosophy, vision, CQI goals, policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the Personal Health Information Act. Ability to function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, including collaboration, team work and good communication skills. Good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to cope in stressful situations and ability to cope with the fluctuating work load. May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
