##Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a Student Engagement Assistant for a casual opportunity with the Student Life department. You will work collaboratively with other staff and students to create the best possible engagement experiences. Reporting to the Manager, Student Life and working closely with the Coordinator, Orientation and Transition Programs and Coordinator Peer Mentorship, you will assist with orientation and transition programming (Flightpath), including Early Bird Orientation, New Student Orientation, the Community Nest Program, and other Student Life initiatives. The nature of this work is to support students at MacEwan by helping integrate them into the campus community and help them persist toward their next year of study.
The position will begin onMay 1and will require28–35 hours per week from May to August, followed by15 hours per week from September to March 31. The role will also involve participating inoccasional evening training and student events.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and implementation of student programming;
- Marketing and recruiting orientation and transition programs;
- Event planning for student events;
- Researching best practices in student engagement initiatives;
- Providing administrative support;
- Supporting students at Student Life and the Welcome Centre;
- Providing campus tours for new students;
- Supporting students in the Community Nest Program and attending collaborative meetings with the Community Nest Leaders;
- Creating and scheduling content for Instagram and the MacEwan Student Life platform, including producing social media content using a variety of mediums; and
- Following a communication plan to successfully reach out and engage with students.
####Skills
You will have:
- Strong customer service skills;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking and facilitation skills;
- Problem-solving skills and strong organizational skills; and
- Basic graphic design and social media skills would be considered an asset.
####Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student at MacEwan University, with a minimum of 18 credits completed in your program of study.
- Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.70 GPA.
- Experience with Microsoft and Google applications.
- Experience in public speaking would be considered an asset.
- Experience as a MacEwan University student leader would be considered an asset.
- A variety of student leadership, volunteer, and campus involvement experiences documented on your Student Experience Record would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
####Position Requirements
Mandatory attendance is required for the following group training and student events:
- July 22 – Group Training
- August 8 and 9 – Group Training
- August 25 – Orientation Event
- September 1 – New Student Orientation
- January 5 – New Student Orientation
