The Technical Trainer plays a foundational role in preparing Operations for service readiness, workforce enablement, and operational excellence. This position is responsible for designing content, testing, refining, and institutionalizing operational knowledge, workflows, and training materials required to support the effective functioning of the Network Services Operations (NSO).
Working closely with Network Operations Centre (NOC), Customer Service Centre (CSC), Project Management Operations (PMO), engineering teams, and vendor partners, the Technical Trainer will develop role-based training programs, create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and implement Train-the-Trainer programs to ensure all operational staff are certified and performance-ready. This role ensures synchronization and is accountable for training delivery with Lightspeed development milestones, enabling seamless operational ramp-up.
This role will work out of our Gatineau facility in 2026 Key Responsibilities SOP Development & Integration: Collaborate with SMEs to create, validate, and finalize SOPs aligned with Lightspeed operational processes and UAT results. Build role-specific SOPs for routine and non-routine activities, ensuring consistency, safety, and compliance.
Design Role-Based Training Courseware: Develop and deliver end-to-end training courseware for onboarding and continuous improvement, including job aids, reference guides, and multimedia content. Develop a library of training modules, hands-on labs, simulations, and certifications tailored for operational roles (e.g., Tier 1 CSR, NOC Analyst, FSR, Change Manager).
Vendor Training Adaptation: Ingest and customize vendor “Train the Trainer” materials for internal use; ensure alignment with Telesat standards and operational requirements. Certify internal trainers to deliver high-quality instruction across regions, languages, and operational environments.
Develop End-to-End Operational Workflows: Design and validate workflows across NOC, CSC, CRC, FOC, and other support functions to standardize execution and alignment.
Process Validation: Support UAT execution and feedback loops; integrate test results into SOPs and training content.
Lightspeed Operational Knowledge Base: Maintain a searchable, version-controlled repository housing SOPs, workflows, vendor documentation, training content, FAQs, operational bulletins, and vendor documentation for easy access by NSO teams.
Continuous Improvement: Identify gaps in training and documentation; propose enhancements to improve operational efficiency and readiness. Required Qualifications & Experience
Establish Disaster Recovery & Escalation Playbooks: Create structured response guides and decision trees for major incident scenarios, enabling rapid and coordinated response.
Synchronize Training with Deployment Milestones: Align and deliver training content, with delivery schedules, system activation and service ramp-up timelines.
Certification & Performance Tracking: Ensure all operational staff meet baseline competency requirements; track training completion and certification status.
Education: Electronics Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent post-secondary education in Technical Communication, Telecommunications, or Network Engineering.
Experience: 7+ years of experience in technical writing or documentation in a telecommunications, satellite, or network operations environment.
3+ years in a 24/7 NOC or mission-critical operational setting.
Experience leading documentation initiatives across cross-functional teams.
Strong understanding of satellite communications, RF principles, IP networking, and service assurance frameworks.
Familiarity with supervisory systems, BOSS platforms, and real-time data collection and analysis.
Proficiency in documentation tools (Confluence, SharePoint, Smartsheet) and MS Office Suite.
Exposure to MEF standards and L2 services is an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bilingual (English and French) preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Working Conditions: On site based in Gatineau QC, temporarily in Ottawa ON.
Availability for occasional overtime or on-call support during critical project phases.
Infrequent travel to national or international facilities may be required.
Shift work or altered schedules may be required during key operational transitions.
