S&P Dow Jones Indices is looking for a Lead Java and Database Developer to play a pivotal role in the implementation and support of platforms for S&P Dow Jones Indices. This position calls for an experienced technologist who will contribute to both application development and maintenance. The ideal candidate will proactively assess new products and technologies to create solutions that enhance business operations. A strong focus on delivery and substantial experience with financial applications are essential. The candidate will also provide assistance in daily support and operational functions, as well as in design, development, and unit testing activities.
Responsibilities And Impact

Design and develop Java applications for the S&P DJI platform systems.

Engage in various software development processes, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and documentation.

Create software applications based on well-defined business specifications.

Contribute to new initiatives while providing support for existing Index applications.

Develop applications utilizing object-oriented programming concepts and implement design patterns.

Establish development environments and sandboxes for application development.
-
Conduct unit testing on application code and resolve any identified issues.

Interface with databases to extract data and build necessary functionalities.
-
Maintain effective communication with customers, business users, and IT personnel.

Lead the design and implementation of database solutions using PostgreSQL and other relational database systems.

Ensure optimal database performance, security, and reliability while collaborating with application teams to establish database design.

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support data-driven projects.

Mentor junior team members and advocate for best practices within the team.

Oversee database maintenance and address troubleshooting needs.

Foster innovation by assessing and incorporating new technologies.

Produce system design documentation and participate in technical walkthroughs.

Optimize application and system performance while troubleshooting any performance-related issues.

What We’re Looking For
Basic Required Qualifications

Accumulate over 10 years of IT experience in application support or development.

Require a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering, or demonstrate equivalent work experience.

Have more than 10 years of experience in application development within the IT sector.

Exhibit strong architectural expertise in developing complex financial systems.

Demonstrate robust design and development capabilities for end-of-day financial systems.

Possess extensive experience with Java, J2EE, JMS, and build tools like Maven and Gradle.

Have hands-on experience in designing, developing, testing, and successfully deploying critical and complex projects.

Show strong Java skills with a focus on the development of concurrent systems.

Have good experience with Spring-based technologies, including Spring Boot.

Demonstrate experience in designing and implementing microservices-based architectures.

Have experience writing unit and integration tests.

Possess experience in writing SQL queries and have a solid understanding of data modeling.

Exhibit familiarity with the Spring framework.

Have experience with RESTful services.

Gain experience with caching technologies such as Elasticsearch and Redis.

Have experience with ActiveMQ or similar messaging systems.

Possess experience in SQL and PL/SQL programming.

Have exposure to cloud technologies, preferably AWS services.

Be familiar with Docker containers and Amazon ECS.

Have exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitLab.

Have experience with AWS cloud technologies, particularly in RDS managed and serverless database solutions.

Demonstrate experience with relational database technologies.

Have experience working with multi-threaded, high-performance, low-latency messaging systems.

Utilize system tools, source control systems, utilities, and third-party products effectively.

Have experience with financial applications, including Index/Benchmarks, Asset Management, Portfolio Investment modeling, or trading systems.

Exhibit excellent communication skills, with strong verbal and written proficiency.

Have hands-on experience in addressing performance issues and tuning applications.

Demonstrate experience with Java in developing production-grade enterprise applications.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in building data analytics solutions on AWS Cloud.
- Thorough understanding of replication strategies and implementation of HA protocols for 99.99% uptime.
- Experience with implementation of data governance and data lineage.
- Proficiency in implementing data models in SQL and NoSQL databases.
