The** Catholic Independent Schools of the Vancouver Archdiocese ** (the CISVA) operates 46 schools – 40 elementary and 6 high schools. Star of the Sea School is a vibrant Catholic elementary school (Kindergarten to Grade 7) located in the welcoming South Surrey community, serving families from Surrey and White Rock. JOB DESCRIPTION
Physical Education Teacher & Athletics Director – Star of the Sea School
Star of the Sea School is seeking an energetic and dedicated Physical Education Teacher to lead our K–7 program while also serving as Athletics Director. Rooted in Catholic values, this role is central to promoting student well-being, teamwork, and school spirit through a comprehensive and inclusive athletics program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging Physical Education instruction for all grades (K–7)
- Promote physical literacy, healthy living, and positive sportsmanship
- Organize and oversee all school athletics programs, including teams, leagues, and events
- Coordinate schedules, tournaments, and communication with leagues and partner schools
- Foster high levels of student participation in athletics and extracurricular sports
- Coach school teams and support staff and volunteer coaches
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all student-athletes
Program Highlights:
Star of the Sea has a proud tradition of excellence in athletics, demonstrated not only through competitive success and championships, but more importantly through strong student participation and a culture that encourages all students to be involved, active, and engaged.
Qualifications:
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate
- Training and/or experience in Physical Education
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Experience coaching school-aged athletes and managing athletics programs
- Commitment to fostering inclusive participation and positive team culture
- Willingness to support the faith life of a Catholic school community

On an on-going basis, we accept teacher applications for grade levels K to 12 for our Catholic schools throughout the Greater Vancouver Area and Powell River in beautiful British Columbia. All Catholics, non-Catholics, new education grads, and experienced teachers from across Canada are strongly encouraged to apply. Our major hiring season is in April for the following school year, but we recommend that you apply now as we receive an influx of applications.
