Purpose
The Production Manager provides leadership and oversight for all production departments within the processing facility, including cut, prep, packaging, and warehouse operations. This role is responsible for optimizing production processes to achieve high-quality cuts at maximum yield, maximizing pounds per man-hour, ensuring food and employee safety, and managing departmental needs related to systems, staffing, and equipment. The Production Manager also plays a key role in customer relations, product development, and contributing to the overall business strategy. This is an Operations position responsible for effectively planning, directing and coordinating the work activity and resources necessary for Production in accordance with cost, quality and quantity specifications.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all manufacturing, including the safety, production, quality, and financial performance of the plant.
- Achieving performance key metrics; Set and monitor productivity standards; evaluates fiscal metrics and adjusts activities to meet or exceed performance expectations.
- This position will be responsible for establishing operating objectives for the plant during the annual strategic planning process.
- Directs operations to ensure cost effectiveness and consistency with prescribed quality and performance standards.
- Production planning and scheduling of workflow to ensure efficient customer fill rate.
- Develop, implement and maintain production tracking and quality control systems.
- Track, monitor, control and reduce shrink as per company targets - i.e., production wastage, by-product maximization, yields.
- Effectively manage Labour cost expenses; review actuals vs. budgets on a weekly basis and take corrective action as required.
- Plans overall production needs for best possible utilization of equipment and personnel with the objective of attaining optimum operating efficiencies.
- Must be hands on leader who is comfortable in the details of a complex and demanding position.
- Direct yield testing and raw materials during processing to ensure finished products are meeting specs and quality.
- Work with managers / supervisors to set and execute policies and goals
- Create a working environment in the plant that enhances employee performance and retention.
- Conducts audits ensuring all required inspections and documentation are completed accurately (including, but not limited to, food safety documentation, EHS, etc.) and retained to ensure a minimum potential for loss.
- Management and direction of staff - maintains associate relations through regular meetings; maintains on-going interaction; keeps open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitors associate morale; and implements or responds to ideas to improve associate engagement and enablement.
- Interprets trains and consistently enforces Company policies and procedures
- Ensures compliance with all Insurance Pooling requirements; with local, federal and provincial regulatory agencies (i.e. OHS, CFIA, etc.); with licensing and logbook requirements and with food safety policies, protocols and requirements.
- Monitors the condition and maintenance of the production , equipment, software, by managing production area and ensure consistency with the safety, security, sanitation and standards set by Sysco in an effort to reduce or eliminate operations-related injuries or accidents, damage/loss of product or equipment, and unnecessary costs.
- Supports contingency systems/practices/protocols are in place to eliminate business disruption.
- Ensures the appropriate use and updating of software systems for production equipment.
- Accountable for the accuracy of timecards, approvals and scheduling of direct reports.
- In times of coverage the 1-up supervisor is responsible for the continuity of the duties and responsibilities to be completed.
- Complies with Sysco's Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Understands that their role is critical in creating a safe organization with minimal environmental impact and the value that brings to the organization.
- Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by acting as an example and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.
- Enable, champion and embrace an inclusive culture.
- Supporting inventory counts as needed.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of Production management experience or equivalent leadership responsibilities.
- 2+ years of Food manufacturing, preferably in protein products.
- Post-secondary diploma/degree or equivalent experience in Production Management
- Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, and ability to learn Sysco technology software and programs. Must have excellent computer skills.
- Sound knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act

Associate's degree in related discipline or an additional 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
