Mechanical Engineering Coop | Winter 2026 [Victoria & Toronto]

Victoria, BC
CA$27 - CA$28/hourly
Mid Level
full_time

About the role

The Mechanical Engineering department is where everything comes together. We conceptualize, research, design, procure, and test mechanisms, structural parts, packages, and assemblies for a variety of medical devices by choosing the right geometry, material, finish, and process. These activities frequently include design and implementation of thermodynamic, fluidic, optical, and ultrasonic solutions and high-precision parts. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, we collaborate with other disciplines, keeping our eyes on the big picture results and the specialized role we play to get our clients to their milestones.

This term (January 2026 – April 2026), we expect to hire one student to join our Mechanical Engineering department for what is typically a 4-month term. We operate and collaborate across our three sites – Victoria, Toronto, and Irvine. This position will be based in Victoria, BC, with the possibility of another position opening for Toronto, ON, over the hiring timeline. The position is open for any students in a relevant undergraduate degree – preferably Mechanical, Biomechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering – who have an inquisitive nature and want to focus on product design. The ideal candidate can juggle three or more projects, is skilled in documentation, is capable with SolidWorks, can prioritize their time independently, and will work from team and client inputs all while keeping the end goal in mind. Do you love to conceptualize and build things? Are you the kind of person who needs to know how stuff works? Do you want to improve patient outcomes through your work? If so, apply with us – we’d love to have you.

Salary:

The current hourly rate for 3rd year students is $26.70, and for 4th year students $27.91. Final rates will be confirmed in October 2025.

Position Profile:

The Mechanical Engineer Co-op role requires proficiency in CAD, mechanics, vibrations, thermodynamics, materials, and machine elements, along with a solid understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).

Responsibilities:

  • Support project teams by means of mechanical design, research, prototyping, and testing.
  • Create solid models, assemblies, and detailed component drawings using SolidWorks, and assist in preparing and reviewing drawings.
  • Material research; familiar with a variety of materials including plastics, rubbers, and metals, and their manufacturing and finishing techniques and limitations.
  • Determine the most appropriate manufacturing method for assembly components, considering tolerances, cost, quantities and lead times.
  • Understanding of rapid prototyping methods and materials.
  • Identify capable suppliers and vendors to purchase and expedite the delivery of key mechanical components.
  • Work with manufacturing personnel to develop assembly procedures for mechanical/electrical assemblies.
  • Assemble and test prototypes.
  • Practice clear documentation techniques.
  • Any other related duties, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work within a team or as an individual with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate MS Office Skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • 3****rd or 4****th year engineering student.
  • Experience working in a high-tech environment is preferred.
