As a Clinical Dietitian with VCH you will:
- Coordinate the delivery of clinical nutrition services to a resident population with varying physical and cognitive disabilities.
- Participate as member of the interdisciplinary care team in the development and evaluation of specified nutrition care plans for residents.
- Apply knowledge, skill and clinical experience to assess, develop and evaluate nutrition care plans and monitor outcomes.
- Provide recommendations based on assessment and medical conditions regarding oral and/or enteral nutrition support regimes.
- Prepare progress notes and reports in Resident’s Health Record.
- Provide counselling and education to residents that facilitate optimal nutrition intake and support health maintenance.
- Monitor the resident’s nutritional status and the delivery of nutrition services to ensure nutritious meals are available to the residents in a timely and appropriate manner and recommend improvements in food delivery.
- Review menus and make recommendations for improvement to the Food Services Manager or designate based on the Lower Mainland Nutrition Standards.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Current full registration as a Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
- Restricted Activity A is required to practice.
- Two (2) years’ clinical dietetic experience in a community care or long term care setting, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of clinical dietetic theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
- Knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
- Comprehensive knowledge of Long Term Care and gerontological nutrition.
- Knowledge of dysphagia and related nutritional issues related to disability/degenerative diseases.
- Knowledge of enteral nutrition.
- Demonstrated ability to assess residents with diverse nutrition problems
- Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and think critically.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical direction to non-professional staff.
- Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach residents and families.
- Demonstrated ability to apply the principles of adult learning.
- Demonstrated ability to develop practice guidelines and protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and coordinate work assignments.
- Demonstrated experience with utilizing various word processing, spreadsheet and nutrition-related computer applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a multi-disciplined team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Closing Statement
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health and you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
