Job Description: Mine Planning & Operations

  • Collaborate with Mine Planning teams to influence short and mid-range plans that balance geological insights, production goals, and operational constraints.
  • Ensure safety compliance and proactively integrate risk mitigation strategies into mine designs.
  • Leverage advanced planning tools to optimize ore sequencing, equipment utilization, and waste management.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, identify bottlenecks, and recommend plan adjustments.
  • Partner with Mine Engineering to enhance autonomous fleet design standards and integration.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Integrate with production, maintenance, and reliability teams to identify and implement operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with Finning and Caterpillar teams to uncover cost-saving opportunities and enhance customer support.
  • Share expertise with the customer’s Mining Automation team to optimize systems like MineStar.
  • Stay current with industry trends and bring innovative ideas to the team.
  • Champion safety across all aspects of planning and operations.

Education & Experience Required

  • A minimum of 5-7 plus years of on-site technical experience in mining operations, mine planning, reliability, or maintenance—demonstrating a strong ability to influence operational and maintenance outcomes.
  • A post-secondary degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Alberta or British Columbia is an asset.
  • Proven expertise in mine design, planning, and operational best practices, with a solid understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including mine layout planning, resource coordination, and timeline execution.
  • Skilled in using MS Office tools including Excel, Project, Word, and PowerPoint to analyze, visualize, and communicate technical data effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, particularly in complex and dynamic operational environments.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software such as Civil CAD, Vulcan, Deswik, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP, Maximo, or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of mining safety protocols, hazard mitigation strategies, and risk management practices.
