About the role
Reporting to the Director, Engineering Services, this position will lead the long-term direction and strategic orientation of the division. First and foremost, this role is about Leadership, Communication and Collaboration. This position is a collaborative partner with internal & external stakeholders, a mentor to their technical team and a leader who can demonstrate and inspire our workplace culture and values. Demonstrating a visible and positive leadership example, and making recommendations to support continuous improvement efforts, you will position the division and branch at the leading edge of project management.
Responsibilities:
- Management of the design and construction of municipal infrastructure
- Liaise with various internal and partner organizations to provide technical support, technical resources and technical information to determine the delivery solutions that best meet the community needs and organizational goals
- Liaise with internal/external stakeholders including but not limited to engineering consultants, lawyers, regulatory agencies, elected officials and staff
- Provide professional engineering advice
- Prepare and present reports to Committee and Council
- Responsible for selection and training of staff
- Work collaboratively with other leaders across the organization in the review and implementation of strategic organizational projects and programs
Requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills generally associated with the completion of a four (4) year Bachelor of Engineering Degree from a recognized university, and ten (10) years of relevant engineering experience in all aspects of Infrastructure Project Delivery; at least five (5) of which are in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a municipal environment
- Must be registered as a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario
- Skilled in effective project/program management techniques. A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation with Project Management Institute (PMI) is a definite asset
- Leadership skills acquired through considerable experience leading and motivating staff
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders and the general public including preparation of reports and presentations
- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and public relations skills
- Excellent reasoning, administrative, research and analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships
- Ability to provide own transportation for travel between work locations as required
