As a Systems Project Engineer, you will report to the Leader, Communication Systems and play a key role in support the engineering, operations and maintenance of critical infrastructure including Radion Communications System, other Voice Communications Systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and the Transit Operations Centre (TOC). You will lead projects that ensure the operational readiness and long-term sustainability of Calgary Transit's communications. Primary duties include:

  • Lead and support projects and programs related to the TOC including coordination with Green Line and other Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects requiring facilitation.
  • Provide project management for:
    • Modifications to the existing TOC and Westbrook Administration building.
    • Design, construction and commissioning of the Backup TOC and Transit Tunnels and Cellular Coverage project.
  • Represent Calgary Transit's interest in cross-departmental and city-wide projects
  • Coordinate with internal divisions and business units to minimize operational impacts.
  • Support ongoing operations and maintenance of rail systems assets within TOC.
  • Provide technical guidance to project engineers across Calgary Transit.
  • Assist in the selection and management of consultants/contractors and negotiate Service Level Agreements for maintenance.
  • Prepare procurement documents such as Requests for Proposals (RFP's), Request for Quotes (RFQ's) and Requests for X (RFx).
  • Follow the Corporate and Calgary Transit Project Management Framework and utilize the P2M tool.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Experience in LRT communications infrastructure and technologies is an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in team environments.
  • Sound knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that support building trust with internal and external partners.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
