The Legislative Security Officer plays a meaningful role in supporting the safety, wellbeing, and smooth operations of the Legislative Precinct. In this position, the officer is relied upon to provide thoughtful, timely briefings and recommendations to leadership, offering clear insight into both planned activities and unexpected situations that may arise. They also take on responsibilities that extend beyond the regular duties of the Protective Services Team, helping ensure that everyone who works in or visits the Precinct feels secure, supported, and informed.

Duties:

Reporting to the leadership of the Legislative Security Unit, the Legislative Security Officer is responsible for upholding the Legislative Security Act within the Legislative Precinct. This role ensures a safe and secure environment for all individuals working in or visiting the Manitoba Legislative Building and surrounding precinct.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience in Canadian Law Enforcement or related Law Enforcement and whereby you carried a firearm as part of your regular duties.
  • Strong political acumen with the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Ability to operate in high pressure environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills including the ability to write comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with Indigenous communities through meaningful engagements, cultural awareness and applying the principles of reconciliation.
  • Expertise in a team based setting and operational planning and knowledge in the execution.
  • Thorough understanding of The Charter of Rights and Powers of Arrest in relation to Police applications.

Desired:

  • VIP unit assignment/experience as it relates to Policing.
  • Experience in court testifying/court process and preparation of required reports/notes.
  • Experience/assignment in specialized teams.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search).

  • Must provide and maintain satisfactory Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.

  • Satisfactory Enhanced Security Screening.

  • Valid First aid/CPR.

  • Valid class 5.0 driver’s licence as it relates to the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act.

  • Ability to work varying hours, shifts and overtime when required.

  • Successfully qualify in issued firearms and issued Less Lethal weapons/options and maintain these standards as required.
