About the role

MacKay Contracting Ltd. is a progressive and well-established Heavy Civil Construction and Mining Services company. For over 40 years, we’ve delivered the projects others avoid — from roads and bridges to utilities, mine infrastructure, and large-scale earthworks. With operations throughout Western Canada, we’re proud to build the foundations communities depend on.

We’re seeking a Civil Foreman to oversee the daily operations of project crews. This role ensures that each day’s work is planned, resourced, and executed to the highest quality and safety standards, while coordinating closely with the Civil Project Manager to meet client and project requirements.

How You’ll Contribute

As Civil Foreman, you’ll be the front-line leader of your crew. You’ll provide clear direction, guidance, and mentorship while ensuring schedules, resources, and safety requirements are met. You’ll be a key link between the field, management, and clients — keeping projects moving smoothly and efficiently.

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Provide daily direction to crews, keeping them on track with schedules and project goals

  • Work closely with the Superintendent, Project Manager, and crew to plan upcoming activities

  • Communicate project requirements and progress to crews, clients, and internal departments

  • Ensure pre-locates are performed for all existing utilities prior to work commencing

  • Forward plan for materials, subcontractors, and testing requirements (e.g., density, pressure, beam tests, proof rolls)

  • Lead daily toolbox talks and participate in meetings on production, scheduling, and conflict resolution

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of timesheets and work orders to head office

  • Conduct end-of-project inventory of materials and ensure removal from site

  • Provide training and mentorship to crew members, supporting their development and accountability

  • Ensure health, safety, and quality standards are fully integrated into project planning and execution

  • Represent MacKay professionally in all interactions with clients and the public

Who You Are

You’re a skilled civil construction professional with a proven ability to lead teams in the field. You bring technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and a focus on quality and safety to every project.

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Lead Hand or Foreman in civil works (underground utilities and road construction preferred)
  • A solid understanding of all aspects of civil construction
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and training abilities
  • Experience reviewing construction plans and applying knowledge on site
  • Working knowledge of grade control equipment (rotary lasers, pipe lasers, builder’s levels, and transits)
  • Related construction experience with a focus on underground utilities and roadwork
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends when required
  • Professional and courteous communication with clients, crews, and the public
  • The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

Even better if you have:

  • First Aid, confined space, and fall protection certifications

What’s In It for You

  • Competitive wages and comprehensive benefits package

  • Leadership role with direct influence on project outcomes

  • A strong safety culture that values people and training

  • The opportunity to mentor crews and shape the next generation of construction leaders

  • The chance to work with a respected company on impactful projects across the region

At MacKay, we believe great people build great projects. If you’re ready to lead crews with safety, quality, and professionalism, we want to hear from you.
