About the role

DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD OF NIAGARA Computer Server Administrator Education Centre – Tech Services One (1) Full-time Position 40 Hours per Week Applications through applytoeducation.com are invited for this position from properly qualified employees within the system presently covered under the scope of the District School Board of Niagara Office, Clerical and Technical Group, and shall be directed to the attention of Human Resource Services. The Information Technology Services Department seeks a dynamic professional to support the Board’s advanced computing environment. The successful candidate will lead and guide planning, evaluation, and maintenance of approved IT systems at a senior technical level.

Reporting to the Manager, the Computer Server Administrator will work with technical staff to provide expertise on server, cloud and email infrastructure for existing and developing IT systems.

The functions of this position could include (but are not limited to): Key Responsibilities Server Infrastructure Management : Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, install, and resolve issues related to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server environments including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, IIS, Cluster Services and Certificate Services
  • Linux Servers and Docker environments
  • Enterprise-grade server hardware and storage technologies
  • Fortinet Firewalls
  • Virtualization technologies (cloud and on-premises) as well as physical servers

Email, Productivity, Cloud & Identity Management

  • Manage email and productivity solutions in Office 365 and Google Workspace
  • Manage Microsoft Azure Cloud, Entra ID and Clever environments
  • Configure identity management solutions including multi-factor authentication and single sign-on (SSO)

Strategic Planning & Evaluation

  • Contribute to infrastructure planning and evaluation aligned with organizational goals
  • Research and recommend new technologies and optimize existing systems and processes

Security & Vulnerability Management

  • Monitor server and datacenter systems for vulnerabilities
  • Apply critical patches, firmware and security updated in a timely manner
  • Collaborate on enterprise-level security design and implementation

Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Configure and administer enterprise backup and recovery solutions including on-premises and cloud-based storage solutions
  • Maintain and execute disaster recovery plans for data replication and restoration

Automation & Documentation

  • Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, Logic Apps, Runbooks and other technologies
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and Helpdesk knowledge base articles

Collaboration & Support

  • Liaise with schools and departments to resolve technical issues and provide support
  • Participate in large-scale projects and cross-functional initiatives
  • Other Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications Skills, Qualifications and Education Requirements Education & Experience

  • Minimum 3-year college diploma or university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years if experience in server, email and security administration within an enterprise environment
  • Experience supporting staff and students in a K-12 education or related environment is an asset

Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise operating systems, client platforms, database and web servers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft, Google, iOS, and Android platforms
  • Experience with online learning and cloud collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace
  • Knowledge of information security practices in enterprise IT administration, including standards from ISC2, ISACA, CCCS or NIST
  • Experience with enterprise-level security design and implementation, including Fortinet Firewalls, IPS, NAC and WAF solutions
  • Strong working knowledge of Application Layer protocols, TCP/IP networking, IP routing, VLAN segmentation and Wi-Fi technologies

IT Service Management & Project Work

  • Familiarity with IT service management concepts such as incident, problem, change, configuration, capacity, and service level management (ITIL/ITSM certifications preferred)
  • Experience working on large-scale projects and cross-functional teams

Tools & Systems

  • Proficiency in ticketing/helpdesk software (TOPdesk preferred)
  • Experience with system management tools such as FortiManager, Microsoft Azure Portal, Windows Admin Center, System Center Operations Manager and Configuration Manager

Professional Skills

  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in team-oriented environments
  • Strong client-focused service orientation and professionalism
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while managing critical systems and applications

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to schools, offices and offsite locations as required
