TITLE: Systems Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Operations - Technology and Infrastructure Support
PAY GRADE: P5
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Reporting to the Supervisor, Infrastructure Services, a Systems Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operations, monitoring, and maintenance of PRIMECorp’s hybrid infrastructure services. The incumbent provides technical support, implements routine changes, troubleshoots moderately complex issues, escalates complex issues when needed, and ensures the stability, availability, and security of on-premise and cloud-based systems. The role supports the delivery of mission critical applications and services in alignment with PRIMECorp’s mission and mandate.
An ideal candidate will have knowledge of traditional on-premise systems, virtualization, cloud platforms, and the integration between these environments.
NATURE AND SCOPE
· Operate and maintain hybrid cloud solutions
· Support enterprise-level systems across both physical and virtual environments, maintaining system availability and performance
· Engage in continuous service improvement to help enhance performance of critical systems
· Perform deployments, updates, and routine maintenance of on-premise and cloud resources
· Plan and coordinate preventive maintenance activities and small-scale projects such as infrastructure upgrades, equipment moves, data migrations, and hardware and software deployments as well as corrective maintenance and emergency patches or fixes
· Monitor system performance, identify common issues, troubleshoot complex incidents and escalate extensive problems, as required
· Implement and follow security best practices, ensuring systems remain compliant with policies and industry standards
· Support and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity
· Maintain automation scripts and tools under the guidance of senior staff to streamline operations and reduce manual work
· Collaborate with peers, providing operational support across IT services and troubleshooting of incidents and service performance issues
· Prepare and maintain system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and operational runbooks
· Assist with vendor communications and support requests, as needed
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
· Completion of a university degree or diploma in computer science technology or a related discipline (or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered)
· 2–4 years of experience in systems administration or systems engineering with exposure to hybrid cloud environments and virtualization
· Relevant certifications are an asset (e.g., Red Hat, AWS, VMware)
· ITIL Foundation v3 or later accreditation is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Experience with hybrid cloud operations and system administration
· Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their integration with on-premise systems
· Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM)
· Familiarity with NetApp storage provisioning is an asset
· Extensive knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration
· Exposure to infrastructure as code (Terraform) and configuration management (Puppet, Ansible) is an asset
· Experience with monitoring tools (such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, CloudWatch, Elasticsearch)
· Ability to maintain and troubleshoot containerized applications and services
· Familiarity with CI/CD tools and processes is an asset
· Ability to develop and maintain scripts in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and maintenance tasks
· Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to escalate when appropriate
· Ability to follow established best practices and contribute to continuous improvement of operational standards
· Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to produce accurate documentation
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
· Must obtain and maintain a RCMP Enhanced Reliability Level security clearance
· Occasional availability to work outside of regular working hours
· Must reside in the Lower Mainland
· After hours on-call support required on a rotational basis
· Hybrid work environment - remote and in-office
· Occasional travel may be required
· Monday to Friday 40 paid hours per week
