Department of Biology
The Biology Department is a unit in the Faculty of Science at the Fredericton campus. There are 26 Faculty and 8 staff members all working out of the Loring Baily Hall Building. The role of the Department is to conduct original research, which includes projects on a diverse range of experimental organisms and ecology, and to provide high-quality educational opportunities for graduate (PhD, MSc) and undergraduate students.

**Standard Work Hours:**Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week
Salary Range:$52,573- $68,349 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the co-Directors of the Stable Isotopes in Nature Laboratory (SINLAB), the Laboratory Manager is responsible for the supervision and training of technicians, client communications, the administration of the laboratory and the maintenance of equipment and data records relating to the scientific analysis samples in the SINLAB.
Manage daily laboratory operations, including scheduling and prioritizing samples based on project deadlines and laboratory capacity.
Oversee all aspects of sample intake and handling, including receiving, logging, organizing, and tracking incoming sample submissions.
Maintain the sample tracking system to ensure traceability and an efficient workflow throughout all stages of sample processing and analysis.
Oversee laboratory operating procedures related to sample processing and tracking, including proper sample handling and preparation, quality control, and routine equipment maintenance to ensure efficient and uninterrupted operations.
Coordinate sample return or disposal, keep clients informed about the status of samples within the processing pipeline, and follow up on any sample-related issues or missing information.
Ensure general lab and chemical safety, including adherence to WHMIS protocols.
Provide training for part-time technicians and students in proper aseptic lab techniques and SINLAB protocols, and ensure that these protocols are consistently followed.
Ability to operate all major equipment within SINLAB and step in as needed.
WHAT YOU BRING
Master of Science in Biology or Chemistry
Analytical laboratory experience.
Proficiency in Elemental Analyzer (EA) and Continuous Flow Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (CFIRMS)
Additional Strengths
General administrative skills, including strong organizational and communication skills.
Experience in Microsoft Office 365, IRMS and Isodat NT.
Analytical thinking/judgement.
A results-oriented focus.
Ability to communicate effectively and interactively.
Ability to work independently and within a Team.
