Job Description

***Temporary - 6 Month Term*** - As a Counter Sales & Material Handler, you will play a dual role in supporting both customer-facing sales and warehouse operations. You will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service at the sales counter while also ensuring accurate and efficient handling of materials in the warehouse. This hybrid position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to both sales and logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Sales Support:

  • Assist customers at the counter with product inquiries, recommendations, and order processing.
  • Enter, pick, and pack sales orders generated at the counter.
  • Research product for customers and provide recommendations on our assortment of product
  • Promote products and drive sales growth through merchandising and customer engagement.
  • Generate sale leads by networking with customers.
  • Process returns and warranty claims, ensuring compliance with company procedures.
  • Assist other teammates in servicing customers at the counter
  • Follow up on backorders and provide accurate delivery timelines to customers
  • Maintain, stock and clean the counter area including any merchandising displays
  • Inform the buyer when stocks levels are low
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Profit Centre Manager

Warehouse & Material Handling:

  • Pick, pack, and ship customer orders accurately and efficiently
  • Load and unload trucks using forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Receive, verify, put away and organize incoming vendor shipments and customer returns
  • Document shipping discrepancies and initiate freight claims when necessary
  • Identify and store special order or damaged materials appropriately
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and safety by removing debris and reporting hazards
  • Notify supervisors of inventory discrepancies or damaged materials
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Profit Centre Manager

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; College and/or University degree is an asset
  • Previous customer service and/or warehouse experience preferred
  • Strong customer service and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with customers, vendors, and teammates
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in order processing and inventory handling
  • High level of organization, cleanliness and great attention to detail
  • Ability to learn and operate applicable software systems for order processing and inventory management
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; being able to multitask and balance multiple tasks
  • Intermediate math skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to learn and safely operate material handling equipment (forklift certification is an asset)
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a high standard of integrity
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations within a warehouse, training will also be provided
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving heavy materials safely

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience with or knowledge of plumbing and building products sold at the Profit Centre
  • Ability to use the Internet as a resource to solve problems and find alternative solutions for customers
  • Experience using Word, Excel, and Outlook an asset

Additional Information

Salary Range - $40,000 to $42,000 annually

***Temporary - 6 Month Term***
