Job Summary

A Brief Overview

The Manager, Student Success is responsible for guiding all Full-time MBA students' experience through the student life cycle. These duties include overseeing onboarding after enrolment to the full-year on-campus program activity and the bridge to convocation as a future alumnus.

This position prepares for the annual arrival of a Full-time MBA cohort by being the main point of contact for all onboarding activities, including creation of program portal content, resource sourcing, assisting with securing appropriate rental accommodations, welcome webinars and the creation and planning of a robust orientation schedule.

The role also plays a pivotal role in all areas of the student experience, including some elements of recruitment, participation as a member of the Admissions Committee, MBA classroom management, and all program-affiliated student events. The role oversees the election of an annual Student Executive Council and remains its main contact, monitor, and guide throughout the student experience
This position oversees all student-driven clubs by collaborating with and providing advice, mentorship, and support to student leaders. The incumbent will: connect with and influence club leaders as they work with university staff and external stakeholders; ensure student leaders are aware of, and following, relevant policies and procedures; build and document procedures and processes with each club to create institutional memory and self-sufficiency; provide advisors, mentors, training, and resources as needed.

This position leads the MBA case competition portfolio by: fielding case competition invitations for the Smith MBA Program; coordinating logistics and managing the budget for student teams attending academic case competitions. The role would manage internal case competition and other partnership opportunities with Smith and other community stakeholders.

This position coordinates the planning and execution of programs, interventions, and experiences that help students build the skills needed for personal, social, and academic success. This position counsels and advises students and interprets university policies, procedures, and regulations. This position fosters a living and learning environment that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion and promotes positive student engagement. This position requires high levels of organization, strategic thinking, and partnership building.

Job Description

What you will do

Provides counselling to students; advises on and interprets university policies, procedures, regulations, and requirements; provides support for social, academic, and cultural transition issues and high-risk behaviours; assesses level of seriousness of a situation and makes appropriate recommendations or referrals; tracks and documents all student appointments to better understand patterns of concern and student backgrounds.

Fosters a living and learning environment that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion and promotes positive student engagement; develops, manages and facilitates outcomes for students using a restorative, developmental, and educational approach. Supports educational outreach programs to foster good citizenship, and increase awareness of, and compliance with, the Student Code of Conduct.

Collaborates with different departments, key resources, and stakeholders to coordinate the planning and execution of programs, interventions, experiences, and events that help students build the skills needed for personal, social, and academic success.

Works collaboratively with relevant stakeholders and planning groups to develop and implement student and community engagement initiatives and/or student leadership programming and similar opportunities.

Performs administrative tasks including reviewing, developing, and updating operational documents and assessment practices; ensures appropriate and ongoing documentation and maintains accurate statistics, records and case assessment practices to inform the work of the department.

Provides student-staff support and supervision including hiring, on-boarding, scheduling, coaching, evaluating, and managing performance; facilitates training initiatives; ensures effective and collaborative functioning of all student staff teams. Escalates unresolved performance and/or disciplinary matters to management.

  • Creates and updates content for website targeted to student audience.

  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
    • Experience advising students considered an asset.

    • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.

    • Experience planning, coordinating and/or managing events or promotions considered an asset.

    • Previous experience developing and delivering workshops considered an asset.

    • Experience in data, trend analysis and reporting considered an asset.

Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
