Job Description Articling Student 2026-2027 We are ready to take this game to the next level and need someone passionate to support the organization’s GAME ON strategy and work in a dynamic environment combining public and private law and public policy, in the heart of Ontario’s gaming industry. Articling students at OLG will work in a wide range of practice areas including commercial law, regulatory compliance, and litigation. You will be part of a busy in-house legal team and work directly with business colleagues in the areas of internet gaming, lottery, sports betting, land-based casinos and charitable gaming. You will have the opportunity to support commercial transactions and initiatives and participate in the strategic management and resolution of complex disputes and business issues. You will learn about and support OLG’s initiatives in the public interest, including innovation in areas such as new lottery games, internet gaming, digital analytics, and sports betting. You will also work closely with and be mentored by lawyers at OLG who bring experience from major law firms, multi-national corporations, and provincial regulators..

YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME Reporting to the Legal Services Director, you will be empowered to:

  • Providing legal support, analysis and guidance to internal clients in areas of law including: commercial, marketing and advertising, gaming, technology, constitutional, administrative, real estate, intellectual property, internet, procurement, municipal, freedom of information, privacy, human rights, and employment.
  • Supporting commercial transactions and OLG’s business and strategic objectives in the areas of internet gaming, lottery, sports betting, land-based casinos, charitable gaming, and OLG’s social responsibility initiatives.
  • Assisting with the review, development and implementation of internal policies and processes addressing legal and regulatory compliance requirements, risk management measures, and industry best practices.
  • Working on litigation and compliance matters, including participating in strategic discussions.
  • Collaborating with internal counsel, business clients and OLG’s external counsel.
  • Preparing and presenting briefing materials for internal clients.

Education & Experience WHAT YOU BRING TO THE GAME

  • Successful completion of a law degree or joint-law degree program (J.D., joint-J.D., or equivalent of either) expected prior to start of articling term (anticipated August 2026)
  • Registration in the Lawyer Licensing Process with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) in accordance with applicable LSO requirements and timelines

Critical Skills

  • Interest in commercial law and the other areas of legal practice offered at OLG, and the ability and enthusiasm to work in a wide range of legal areas
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively work with a variety of lawyers and business colleagues in both a team environment and independently as required, with a client service focus
