Manager, Flow Control Facilities Technical Services

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a strategic, hands-on leader to step into the role of Manager, Flow Control Facilities Technical Services. You will lead a high-performing technical team responsible for the reliability, design, and continuous improvement of critical water infrastructure assets.

You’ll shape engineering practices, influence multi-year standards, and partner cross-functionally across operations, projects, and asset management - ensuring safe, efficient, and forward-thinking delivery of engineering services.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Reporting to the Associate Director, Flow Control Facilities, you will lead a team of engineering and technical professionals supporting critical infrastructure systems. Key accountabilities include:

Lead Delivery & Performance

  • Oversee the delivery of core engineering services, including design, technical support, design reviews, and investigations
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of engineering work through your team
  • Remove roadblocks and adapt priorities to meet operational objectives

Plan & Deliver on Business Priorities

  • Contribute to annual operational planning, including priorities, budgets, and resource needs
  • Anticipate risks and challenges, and develop proactive solutions
  • Align team deliverables with broader business and asset strategies

Advance Engineering Excellence

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and technical documentation
  • Oversee drawing QA/QC, as-built verification, hydraulic schematics, and P&IDs
  • Support and continuously improve the Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Lead the evolution of engineering standards (e.g., D&C Volume updates) and technical guidance across Flow Control Facilities

Partner Across the Business

  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Projects, Asset Management, and Construction teams
  • Act as the key liaison for engineering support on capital projects
  • Provide expert technical guidance to stakeholders and leadership
  • Provide engineering oversight and coordination for Management of Change (MOC) activities impacting critical assets

Build & Develop Talent

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers and technical professionals
  • Foster a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative team culture
  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, and ongoing development

What You Bring

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Environmental, Process, or related)
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) in Alberta
  • PMP designation is an asset

Experience

  • 6+ years of engineering experience, including design and project delivery
  • Proven experience leading and developing technical teams in a dynamic, operational environment
  • Strong background in infrastructure, water/wastewater, or similar environments

Technical Expertise

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, process design, pump systems, and engineering economics
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and technical documentation
  • Ability to develop practical, high-value solutions to complex technical challenges

This is a full-time, Monday–Friday role (40 hours per week).

Additional notes:

  • A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law.   • A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
  • Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
  • Successful applicants must provide their own vehicles with appropriate insurance in accordance with EPCOR’s Employee Mileage Reimbursement Policy. You will be reimbursed in accordance with EPCOR’s Employee Mileage Reimbursement Policy.
  • The results of this competition may be used to fill similar vacant positions for up to six (6) months.
