About the role

The Opportunity:

We’re looking for a Principal Risk Assessor to join our Environmental Management Team in Vancouver — one of the largest and most respected risk assessment and toxicology teams in the region.

As a senior leader, you’ll help shape complex human health and ecological risk assessments across Canada, with a focus on BC and Alberta. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in environmental assessment, permitting, water quality, and mining — working on projects that truly make a difference.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Lead the development of risk assessments, risk management plans, and site closure strategies for contaminated sites.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members in toxicology, exposure modeling, and contaminant fate & transport.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in environmental assessment, permitting, water quality, and mining.
  • Oversee data analysis, quantitative risk calculations, and regulatory submissions to federal and provincial authorities.
  • Participate in client meetings to deliver strategic advice on risk-based approaches for remediation, redevelopment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare technical reports, statistical summaries, and graphical presentations.
  • Ensure QA/QC standards are met across deliverables. Support growth and innovation within the risk assessment and toxicology practice, bringing a solution-oriented mindset to complex environmental challenges.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • University degree (minimum of Masters degree) in one or more of the following: environmental science, toxicology, or chemical engineering

  • Professional registration as a Registered Professional Biologist or other applicable professional regulatory body

  • A minimum of 15 years of environmental consulting experience in the Canadian marketplace, of which a component is in British Columbia.

  • Comprehensive understanding and experience with the BC Contaminated Sites Regulation.

  • Possess strong client development skills and have proven client management and regulatory negotiation experience.

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.

  • Excellent technical writing skills.

  • Experience in research methods/techniques to gather information, assess and resolve issues, assess validity and applicability of scientific studies.

  • Experience in completion of health impact assessments and/or environmental impact assessments in support of EIAs,

  • Detail oriented and have a strong focus on quality assurance/quality control and can effectively oversee teams during data collection and reporting

  • Passion for working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment located locally, nationally, and internationally.

  • Experience working or volunteering with professional regulatory bodies or associations.
