As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of the City's major transportation infrastructure. Transit Systems projects include bus rapid transit (BRT), light rail transit (LRT) extensions, retrofit to and new transit stations, upgrades to and new transit maintenance facilities, interchanges, and bridge structures. You will have an opportunity to apply your skills, experience, and expertise in collaborating and problem-solving across multiple City Service Lines, as well as with internal and external, to arrive at quality outcomes for Calgarians. Primary duties include:
- Work within an integrated Major Mobility team to assess project risks, review available procurement alternatives, prepare procurement documents and lead the procurement of Vendors (consultants and contractors).
- Manage projects throughout their development and delivery stages to ensure the procurement, design, construction, and close-out phases are delivered on schedule, on budget, and in alignment with the project's vision. Key items include procurement development, design and construction submittals, changes and contract extensions, submission of as-builts, record drawings, warranties, and the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, among others.
- Develop and sustain strategic and working relationships with internal and external customers, community and business organizations, participants, contributors, and partners to facilitate excellence in service and product delivery.
- Attend community and public meetings, open houses, customer sessions and online forums or sessions as required to support projects' design and delivery.
- Respond to corporate, public, and Council-related inquiries.
Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering field and at least 6 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - Experience must include managing the procurement, design and/or construction of Transit Systems or transportation projects.
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be considered an asset.
- Experience working and negotiating with developers, interest holders and presenting to legislative and political bodies is considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires: strong analytical, business planning and organizational effectiveness skills; negotiation and organizational skills; ability to adapt to a changing environment; ability to lead and coordinate several strategic objectives; ability to balance technical requirements with non-technical competing priorities; demonstrated effective communication and presentation skills; and coaching and mentoring, among others.

Compensation: Level P4E $138,475 - 173,094 per annum
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
