Are you passionate about numbers, detail-oriented, and ready to make a real impact in education? Edmonton Catholic Schools is hiring a School Accounting Coordinator to play a key role in maintaining financial accuracy and compliance across our schools and departments. In this position, you’ll support the School Support team through auditing, accounting, and administrative tasks, while also helping to train staff on electronic financial systems. Your work will be essential in upholding financial controls and ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our organization’s operations.

Responsibilities:

Manage School-Based Financial Activities (30%):

  • Maintain effective financial control systems and ensure accurate information flows.
  • Record financial transactions and monitor compliance with internal control processes.
  • Ensure adherence to centrally established accounting principles and Division requirements.
  • Review and processes online payments on a weekly basis to ensure timely financial reporting.

Conduct Financial Reviews (25%):

  • Collaborate with the Financial Reporting team to assess risks of non-compliance with internal controls.
  • Plan and perform targeted reviews for various sites to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Summarize review findings and provide recommendations to school management and Division staff.
  • Perform follow-up work to ensure timely corrections and improvements.

Educate, Collaborate and Communicate with Stakeholders (20%):

  • Provide guidance to schools on compliance with established financial procedures.
  • Analyze and respond to questions, resolving concerns as needed.
  • Promote the use of electronic fee collection systems to reduce financial risk and improve accuracy.
  • Assist in retrieving necessary documents for external audits.

Provide Information Management Support (15%):

  • Assist schools with account code maintenance and compliance with accounting policies.
  • Maintain standards for financial and statistical reports to ensure accurate data reporting.
  • Support the implementation of necessary coding structures for reporting to the Government of Alberta.

Facilitate Training Activities (10%):

  • Identify, plan, and schedule ongoing training sessions based on assessed needs.
  • Train Administrative Support staff and Business Managers on electronic accounting systems and department processes.
  • Instruct school staff on the use of specific templates and software applications to enhance financial accuracy.

Qualifications:

Diploma in an area related to accounting.
Three years of directly related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), financial policies, procedures, and budgeting.
  • General knowledge of Alberta Education’s policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with project management and instructional techniques.
  • General knowledge of the Division’s operations and business and general understanding of the Division’s mission and vision in a faith-based environment
  • Knowledge of records management principles, the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and the Access to Information Act (ATIA)
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Knowledge and alignment with the Division's administrative procedures

  • Strong understanding of electronic financial systems and software packages (Excel, Cayenta, Rycor, Leaf).
  • Proficiency in electronic financial systems and accounting software.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
