Klohn Crippen Berger’s Power and Transportation Business Unit, based in Vancouver, is seeking a  Junior Electrical Engineer to join Klohn Crippen Berger and to participate in various hydroelectric and water management projects.

What you would engage in:

This position offers an excellent opportunity within the company to become a key member of our electrical, protection and controls design team while working closely with our other experienced engineers. You will be a part of a dynamic company that strives to ensure both employee and client satisfaction through successful implementation of our clients’ projects. The role of a Junior Electrical Engineer comes with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule and will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Design and specify electrical equipment within industrial and utility facilities including:

    • generators,
    • low/medium voltage switchgear,
    • transformers,
    • motors and motor control centers,
    • diesel generators,
    • control panels,
    • indoor and outdoor lighting,
    • cables and cable raceway systems,
    • grounding.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including:

    • load flow and voltage drop,
    • circuit breaker and fuse coordination,
    • short-circuit and arc flash,
    • motor starting,
    • battery sizing,
    • cable sizing, pulling tension, and raceway fill,
    • lighting levels,
    • lightning protection,
    • grounding, step and touch potentials.
  • Prepare detailed drawings including:

  • single line diagrams,

  • equipment layouts

  • schematics and wiring diagrams,

  • grounding risers.

  • Review of technical submissions from vendors and contractors.

  • Participate in testing and commissioning.

  • Write reports and present results.

  • Ensure work is compliant with Klohn Crippen Berger’s Integrated Management System.

  • Work well within a multi-disciplinary team.

The successful candidate may be required to work in the field, and may be required to work on the following types of projects:

  • Hydroelectric facilities, dams, and reservoirs
  • Oil sands and Shale Gas energy projects
  • Pipeline infrastructure
  • Mining infrastructure including tailings disposal facilities

What we require:

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however require the following qualifications:

  • An electrical engineering degree from a recognized Canadian university or equivalent with eligibility to register as an EIT with EGBC.
  • 0 – 2 years engineering work experience. New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • A valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing abilities.
  • Experience at utility or industrial facilities is an asset.
  • Able to read and interpret industry standards including CSA, IEEE and NEMA.
  • Capable of understanding other engineering disciplines and how they fit together within a multi-discipline project team.
  • Flexibility to travel and work in the field if required.

The salary for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level.
