Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Leadership, Learning and Academic Excellence the incumbent will support teaching and learning at Loyalist through the promotion of, and incorporation of instructional design and universal design principles and the integration of educational technologies into a variety of course delivery options including face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online (both synchronous and asynchronous).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide advice to faculty regarding online and blended teaching and learning strategies, including the development of learning activities and assessments, and the integration of appropriate educational technologies.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to design instruction for online and hybrid/blended courses, including content layout, learning activities, and assessments using appropriate educational technologies, and subsequently develop the course in the online medium.
- Advise faculty on effective instructional design of materials for face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online courses and advise on emerging educational technologies, and the effective use of these technologies in a variety of course delivery options
- Provide program support and accompanying resources in Loyalist’s Learning Management System that follow instructional design principles as well as provide recommendations to ensure consistency and accessibility for in-person, online and hybrid modalities
- Collaborate with members of the Loyalist community (particularly IT, audio-visual, student success, library and faculty) to ensure educational technology initiatives fulfill teaching and learning needs and expectations campus-wide.
- Provide direct support to faculty in navigating and utilizing Loyalist’s Learning Management System (LMS), including troubleshooting issues, offering guidance on course setup, and ensuring alignment with instructional design principles.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Completion of a certificate in Adult Learning, eLearning, learning technologies.
- Five years’ professional experience in a related field, which includes instructional design, higher education teaching and learning, educational technology, and distributed education in secondary or higher education setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the use of educational technologies at the higher education level.
- Demonstrated experience developing workshops and training materials that are tailored to various learner profiles
- An ability to apply an understanding of diversity and inclusiveness to meet the needs of a diverse student and staff population
- Proficiency using MS Word and Excel, learning management systems and experience using course authoring and/or assessment tools for learning systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with a variety of customer interactions
- Strong analytical skills demonstrating a proactive approach to problem solving
- Excellent organizational skills and a proven ability to manage competing priorities and activities
- Ability to be courteous, tactful, diplomatic, and persuasive in dealing with others
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
