Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operational Excellence, the Specialist – Operational Excellence plays a strategic role in optimizing processes across both manufacturing operations and the organization’s administrative and support functions.
As an expert in continuous improvement, Lean, and Six Sigma, this person acts as a catalyst for change and performance. They contribute to the harmonization of practices, equipment reliability, and the improvement of business processes across all departments.
With the deployment of the new ERP system and the transformation of operational practices, the Specialist will be called upon to optimize cross-functional processes and support teams in adopting more efficient, standardized, and sustainable practices.
Main Responsibilities
Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence
- Support the deployment of the Operational Excellence program across all departments.
- Identify, plan, and lead continuous improvement projects aimed at performance, efficiency, and process simplification.
- Collaborate closely with department leaders to harmonize and optimize processes related to the new ERP system.
- Foster innovation and transformation of work practices to maximize added value for the company.
Lean, Six Sigma, and Problem Solving
- Deploy and coach teams in the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools and methodologies (5S, Kaizen, VSM, SMED, DMAIC, etc.).
- Inspire, guide, and engage operational centers in solving complex problems, analyzing gaps, and optimizing workflows.
- Conduct strategic monitoring of projects to ensure objectives are met in terms of time, resources, and results.
Equipment Reliability and Performance
- Lead the creation and follow-up of the equipment reliability program in collaboration with maintenance and reliability teams.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (MTBF, MTTR, OEE, etc.) to ensure operational performance and sustainability.
- Stay informed on technological developments in new equipment to ensure standardized and effective solutions across sites.
Performance Monitoring and Documentation
- Participate in and support performance management routines across sites to identify improvement opportunities (material yield, efficiency, labor).
- Be responsible for maintaining technical process documentation.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Act as a facilitator and change agent between operational centers and centers of excellence (bridging the plants and head office).
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement at all levels of the organization.
- Support managers in developing skills related to operational excellence.
Main Responsibilities
Knowledge and Skills Required
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Continuous Improvement, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in continuous improvement, project management, or operational excellence, ideally in a manufacturing or multisite environment.
- Proven experience in change management and optimization of administrative processes (a major asset).
Technical Skills
- Demonstrated mastery of Lean and Six Sigma tools and methodologies (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, VSM, SMED, DMAIC), with hands-on project experience (Green Belt certification is an asset).
- Strong understanding of both manufacturing and administrative processes.
- Proficiency with project management and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, etc.).
Interpersonal and Leadership Skills
- Collaborative leadership with the ability to influence without direct authority.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, multisite environment.
- Strong aptitude for working in a project-based mode with diverse departments and stakeholders.
Languages
- Bilingualism (French and English) is essential, both spoken and written, to interact with teams located in Quebec, Florida, and British Columbia, as well as with suppliers.
