Junior Fleet Mechanic
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS - FLEET MAINTENANCE DIVISION
The Town of Auburn DPW – Fleet Maintenance Division is seeking applicants for the position of Junior Fleet Mechanic. This full-time mechanic shall assist the Fleet Foreman in the general functions, services, operations and activities of the Fleet Maintenance Division of the DPW, including repair of all Town vehicles including Police, Fire, DPW, and Town Hall vehicles.
The purpose of the Fleet Maintenance Division is to provide routine maintenance and repair of all municipal vehicles, rolling stock and equipment whenever such work can be done in-house.
General Job Responsibilities
Performs mechanic’s work at a skilled level; May from time to time, assist the Fleet Foreman with tasks typically falling under their scope of work; Perform repairs and preventative maintenance for all Town vehicles and equipment. Assist the DPW during all snow/ice operations as directed by the DPW Director or their designee. Perform related duties as assigned by the Town Manager and/or the DPW managers, which shall include, but not limited to normal functions and operations as required by the Department of Public Works.
MINIMUM QUALITIFACTIONS
Position requires a HS/Diploma/GED with minimum of three years’ experience in motor vehicle repair and heavy equipment repair.
Possess the ability to perform vehicle repairs such as (but not limited to)
Service/Repair of small engine equipment, (lawn mowers, chain saws) Service/Repair light vehicles, (cars, light trucks, SUV’s) Service/Repair medium equipment, (6-wheel dump trucks, backhoes) Service/Repair heavy equipment, (loaders, sweepers, snow removal equipment) The Town will assist the chosen candidate with obtaining their Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within the first year of employment.
Salary (for FY2027) is $31.80 per hour, plus additional overtime as needed. The Junior Fleet Mechanic shall be expected to work periodic overtime for the repair of vehicles and/or management and maintenance of the repair facilities, or as otherwise needed to perform their duties as determined by the Fleet Foreman, Fleet Maintenance Superintendent and/or DPW managers.
