About the role
Northern Transformer is a Canadian-owned, fast growing manufacturer of power transformers. Our team delivers transformers of the highest quality through proven design, quality workmanship, and rapid response to our clients’ special needs. Transformers are either custom designed to meet a client’s unique needs, or built to CSA C88, ANSI C57, or IEC standards. Due to our growth, we are seeking a highly organized and experienced Metal Shop Supervisor to oversee the operation of our fabrication, welding and painting departments.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Overseeing and managing all welding processes within the metal shop, ensuring compliance with CWB standards.
Establish and maintain certified welding skills matrix.
Manage and optimize production flow to meet daily production targets and schedules.
Maintain documentation of welding activities.
Serve as the primary liaison between the metal shop, engineering, and quality departments.
Responsible for leadership, guidance, and training to team members while creating efficiencies.
Maintain positive relationships and work culture.
Handle employees’ personal requests related to HR matters, such as time-off requests and employment verifications in a timely and efficient manner.
Conduct performance and discipline evaluations.
Monitoring and knowledge of safety measures, including compliance to company safety-related policies, training, coordination, and instructing personnel.
Lead initiatives to drive process optimization and quality improvements including lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
Responsible for training workers on the proper techniques, details of materials, equipment, and fabrication techniques.
Requirements
College Degree or Equivalent experience with 10+ years of fabrication and welding experience.
Current CWB certifications including welding, inspection and CWB supervisory qualifications.
Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, communicate daily via email.
Competent in operating ERP workstations and ERP system knowledge (3-5 years).
Knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of all types of welding equipment.
High level experience with drawings/specifications interpretation, along with knowledge of welding terminology, welding symbols, weld faults and GD&T.
Multitasking, time management and organizational skills.
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Self motivated with positive drive and commitment to maintain strong process controls
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 7 am to 4 pm, Friday 7am to 1 pm.
Location: Maple, Vaughan, ON
