Main Responsibilities

• Recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
• Provides day-to-day support of the external counsel program's group inbox.
• Provides guidance to team members, internal and external stakeholders.
• Participates in the development of strategic plans.
• Assists with day to day law firm relationship management and communications.
• Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
• Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc high level reports.
• Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide program insights and recommendations.
• Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
• Assists in managing the law firm management program and provides input into outside counsel management policy and procedures.
• Provides specialized support to investigate and resolve complex issues as assigned or escalated by end-users.
• Oversees law firm billing activities to monitor costs and resolve billing/payment issues.
• Supports and provides input into law firm management program, policy and procedures.
• Supports the investigative and resolution of complex issues as assigned or escalated by end-users.
• Supports the management and implementation of documentation, process controls and knowledge assets required for the program process.
• Manages law firm conflict waiver process.
• Provides guidance on retainer agreements.
• Supports the development and promotion of outside counsel management program solutions.
• Participates in the relationship management between BMO internal business/group partners and outside legal counsel.
• Supports the management of the outside counsel program, including developing program components, promoting the program, and ensuring the execution of all program components and products/services are delivered according to the retainer agreement with the law firms.
• Collaborates with internal/external stakeholders to deliver on business objectives.
• Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
• Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
• Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Typically between 5 – 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Operational experience with legal matter management, e-Billing and Accounts Payable systems required.
• Billing experience required (particularly legal billing).
• Knowledge and experience managing vendor programs - In-depth.
• Experience in design and implementation of technology solutions.
• Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast paced environment.

• Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.
