Our expectations

RONA is seeking an experienced legal counsel in employment law to support its teams in Quebec and across Canada. Reporting to the Head of Legal or a Senior Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will play a leading advisory role in collective and individual labour relations matters.

The role

  • Act as a business partner to the HR teams by delivering practical, timely legal advice aligned with RONA’s business objectives.
  • Your responsibilities will include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating employment-related documents and processes, as well as managing sensitive files.
  • Be involved throughout the entire employment lifecycle—from hiring to termination—including internal policies, performance management, discipline, and the protection of personal information in the HR context.
  • Provide strategic support to the Presence Management team.
  • Support the HR teams in collective agreement negotiations and renewals, including mandate preparation, developing negotiation strategies, and drafting or updating clauses.
  • Support the Health, Safety and Asset Protection team with incident prevention and management.
  • Provide ad hoc strategic support to the Communications team.
  • Assist the Sustainability and Regulatory Compliance Quality Assurance Team.
  • You will be responsible for receiving and handling ethics and compliance reports.
  • Develop and deliver targeted training as needed and update internal policies to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable laws. You will conduct relevant legal monitoring, anticipate the impacts of legislative changes, and formulate recommendations to mitigate risks and support decision-making. You will manage litigated matters handled by external law firms.

Requirements

  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in employment law and/or labor relations, acquired at a leading law firm or a large company.
  • Demonstrated in‑depth expertise in employment standards, labor relations, occupational health and safety, human rights, and the protection of personal information in the HR context, together with comprehensive knowledge of corporate governance and ethics frameworks.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills, coupled with sound practical judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a diverse client base, manage priorities effectively, and handle a high volume of files simultaneously.
  • Client-focused approach and team spirit.
  • Bilingualism (English and French), spoken and written, given that many business stakeholders and internal clients are located outside Quebec.

By joining the RONA family, you’ll enjoy many benefits, such as:
