Why You’ll Love This Role Lumentum’s Switching BU has an opening for a Software Engineer in MEMS test to design, develop and sustain both software frameworks and automation tools for MEMS wafer test stations. MEMS have been at the core of Lumentum’s WSS products for over 20 years and the chosen candidate will be primarily focused on MEMS test for emerging markets. If you have a passion for learning and problem solving with an education in engineering, physics or science then this job is for you. The position will be located in Ottawa-Canada and will involve some out of province travel.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and maintain automation software for MEMS Wafer Test Stations.
- Write and maintain instrument drivers (SMUs, LCR meters, interferometers, cameras, motion stages).
- Create real-time wafer map visualizations and yield tracking dashboards.
- Become familiar with manufacturing processes and run tests at manufacturing sites to validate new HW & SW deployments
- Apply best practices throughout the software development lifecycle
- Design documentation
- API documentation
- Unit testing and continuous integration
- Investigate, document, and resolve test & software related failures.
- Support our design team and manufacturing team.
- Develop novel ways to perform manufacturing automation.
- Definition of test process flows
- Support de-bugging of automation software in collaboration with the process automation prime
What We’re Looking For
-
Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, Science or other relevant engineering or physical science discipline
-
Experience with electrical probing and semiconductor/wafer level testing
-
Strong object-oriented software design and implementation (C#, Python, or equivalent).
-
Experience with any of the following:
-
C#, VB.NET, Python, or equivalent OOP language
-
XML, SQL, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
-
SVN, Git, CI/CD pipelines
-
Visual Studio IDE, MS Build, .NET Framework
-
Software design patterns, multi-threading
-
Knowledge of databases and data visualization (SQL, Python/Pandas, or JMP/Minitab).
-
Experience in instrument automation is an asset (GPIB, VISA, SCPI).
-
Experience with motion control (stages, actuators).
-
Experience with optical and electrical test and measurement equipment
-
Strong written, communication, oral and problem solving skills
-
Well organized and ability to analyze and summarize results and manage multiple high priority tasks
This role is ideal for engineers passionate about combining software development with hands-on semiconductor testing, where your code directly drives the validation of next-generation MEMS devices.
