Reporting to the Team Lead of the Geographic Information Systems Mapping and Applications Unit (GISMAU), under the Business Analytics, Intelligence and Reporting (BAIR) Section, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated GIS Analyst to support the development and application of spatial analytics in advancing data-informed policing. You will conduct geospatial analyses, develop analytical tools and models, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet business requirements.
Specific responsibilities of this position will include:
- Prepare maps, visualizations, and reports for operational, strategic, and administrative use.
- Perform spatial and statistical analysis on crime and operational data to identify trends, forecast hotspots, and evaluate operational effectiveness, to support operational, strategic, and annual policing plans.
- Develop, implement, and train users on GIS applications and reporting solutions.
- Conduct research into spatial and statistical methods relevant to public safety and intelligence-led policing.
- Communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collecting data, developing methods and analyses, ad hoc queries and reports that meet business requirements.
- Test and validate spatial and non-spatial data and data models, spatial applications and statistical reports to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Provide technical support and training to users on GIS applications and tools
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- University degree in statistics, mathematics, geography, GIS/spatial analysis, management sciences or related degree.
- A minimum of two (2) years directly related working experience in spatial analysis, statistics, or equivalent roles.
Skills required for success:
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, Esri Enterprise, Microsoft Excel, and basic use of Python or SQL for data processing and analysis.
- Proficiency in cartography, with strong attention to map layout, color schemes, symbology, and user interface (UI) design.
- Proficiency in data collection, data management, and geospatial visualization.
- Experience using the Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) to transform and integrate spatial and non-spatial data from multiple formats
- Understanding of statistical and spatial modelling principles and their application to operational or research problems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional analytical, problem solving, oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in completing assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate clearly at the executive level.
Assets:
- Knowledge of police or public safety data is an asset.
- Experience with Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI) is an asset.
- Experience in project management methods and software.
Hours of Work:
33.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Salary Range:
21M, Grade 022: $42.304 - $52.853 (Hourly), $2,855.00 - $3,567.60 (Biweekly), $74,529.07 - $93,113.77 (Annually).
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
